2026 Novice Hurdlers

Yeah the form of his hurdle run is very ordinary. Not that flat types like him and the reverend can't improve with runs, just wouldn't have him anywhere near 6/4. Unless a lot of the others entered just don't run.

Probably priced on the basis Patrick mentioned him when talking about Moscow Flyer horses on the pod this week, but yeah I'd certainly have Free Spirit ahead of him to start with.

Yeah I assumed it was probably down to that. You'd think there's a good chance townend picks free spirit over him, if he's showing anything at home.

Paddy on the Moscow Flyer-

At the moment, I think we’ll stay at Naas for Saint Baco, but he does have an entry in case something happens to Naas again. At this stage, Sober looks to be the number one for the Moscow Flyer.

Does give those that have Saint Baco for the Supreme hope whatever race he goes for this week as clearly they don't think he's short of speed.

Dineen has just been asked who he thinks Paul Townend ride in the Supreme, Turners and Bartlett

His answers :- Fou De Toi, You Proof and Sortudo

Not ridden any of them yet either.
He'll be lucky if he gets one of them right.

Would Townend get to ride You Proof or would it be Slevin for the double green?

Depends whether a token ride or first choice. But Townend booted off Daryl when he Impaire was Ballymore fav the other year. Obviously this horse is a fair way off being held in that esteem

PT on his decision to ride Saint Baco...

“It wasn’t an easy decision, and someone was always going to get a good ride out of it,” said the champion jockey.

“I just liked what Saint Baco did in Navan and what he’s been doing at home.

“Sortudo was the obvious ride on the book. I’ve gone for potential over form, and I could have egg on my chin after it!

“I didn’t get to ride either of them in their maidens, so I was only going off homework and Danny (Mullins) found it hard to split them and he’d be a good judge.

“They have both done well since their maiden wins and hopefully one of them is good enough. There won’t be much in it anyway.”

Presume Joe has given him a word on Fou de toi alright

True but this horse was much more impressive than the bare form says. Patrick was pretty sweet on this lad last year. He is going under the radar a bit (probably not now Dineen has put it up) and could well be the Townend ride. We need to see how the Christmas flops perform next time to get a proper gauge on it but from what we have seen so far is think JD i right. You Proof is the best one so far. Interestingly though, he is shorter for the Bartlett.

You'd think either of those in the Lawlors would be ahead of him, even before you get on to the big reputations that disappointed over Christmas.

Suspect you might be better waiting for You Proofs next race and just backing him there. Reckon you'd still get a decent price if he turns up in something like the Nathaniel Lacy next. I'd be concerned he was short of speed for a Turners horse.

He is shorter for AB, but you can get 25,as opposed to 33 Turners.
He’s an interesting one looking at the form, not far away from No Drama, especially considering the difference between the two in prices for both races.
The 33 with cash out for Turners looks tempting to me.

WTAF might be worth looking at next race?

Naas’s meeting, which was abandoned on Sunday, also needs conditions to improve ahead of Friday’s rescheduled card, which is due to feature Grade One action in the Ballymore Novice Hurdle.

“We are still unfit to race, we will look again the morning and see where we are, and update then,” said Naas clerk of the course Brendan Sheridan.

“The forecast looks more positive now than it did even yesterday, so we are hopeful, but we are still unfit to race at this present time.”

I’d agree with this Benjy, You Proof could be similar to Final Demand in that he won the same maiden in similar conditions, if anything, worse conditions to year before, so could be tapped for toe in the Turners as I think Final Demand was. Nathaniel Lacy I’d want the winner going Spud if anything imo. Could be a lazy comparison but at this stage that’s what we have to go on.

The Lawlors, Moscow Flyer, Xmas 2m and DRF 2m is where I’d want my Supreme or Turners candidates running and putting in decent performances. Although Lawlors could almost be linked to spud as well of those races.

Yea, was going to say similar about the 2m lot but he doesn't seem to have the usual standout(s) so I didn't bother. It's where I'd start by looking also though.

And I appreciate there's exceptions... So it wouldn't be a hard rule.
