2026 Novice Hurdlers

Ruby talking up Doctor Du Mesnil for the Bartlett…..
Jesus. Only last week he was telling us all Steinberg would settle fine in a Bartlett, the implication being he was the Mullins one for that.

It will all come down to who Paul wants to ride in each of the novices

He's hardly going to ride DDM in a Bartlett anyway is he? If Dr. Steinberg didnt go that way, you'd say he would ride Espresso anyway

But I think it'll be

Leader - Supreme
King Rasko - Turners
Dr. Steinberg - Bartlett

Probably clear picks too imo

Wouldn't be surprised myself if he was on steinberg - turners and sortudo - bartlett.

Sortudo for me was outstayed in Naas and looked like if anything he could do with being dropped back in trip

I would. Especially after what Mullins said re Rasko being fat on debut. Loads of improvement expected I reckon.

Ruby hinted that Paul may want the one he thinks is his best novice to avoid Mighty Park.
So I think your 3 look fine, unless Mighty Park goes Supreme.

Yeah thats a good point

What percentages would you have Mighty Park - Supreme/Turners atm

80/20 Turners.
Just looks more winnable for a horse that has only won a maiden.
Supreme looks deeper to me.

He also looks like a chaser and looked raw enough the last time.
The way the Turners is normally run should usually allow him to get into the race in his own time, the supreme would be a risk as it might all happen a bit quick early doors.

IMO

Summed it perfectly

Thoughts are exactly the same (y)

If we assume those three are all fit and well and are Paul's top 3.

But the yard like Mighty Park over all of them. (may or may not be the case but ruby seemed to think so)
If Mighty Park goes Turners.

You'd think Paul would want a favourites chance with Dr Steinberg in the bartlett ?

Then in the work immediately prior to cheltenham I'd say whoever he favours out of King Rasko and Leader will go supreme. And he'll ride the other if he has the choice in the turners. So it's quite possible Leader runs in the turners.

Makes the 40-1 NRNB worth playing for anyone not on.

Obviously he could surprise us and go with something else, and Sortudo would be next on the list I suppose then maybe one of the others that have not been mentioned as much - too many to list.

Interesting this year as he realistically only has one favourites chance (and he might not even go off fav if he ran in the Turners, although you'd expect he probably would). So be intriguing how he splits his pack. FWIW I agree with your assessment, although do think Willie might be more wary of running Steinberg in a soft ground Bartlett.

Will Khrisma have to win comfortably Tomo fellas or a little increase do her to get in the county? What’s lowest mark from recent years. Anyone have this to hand rather than having to read back through them all

She'd be touch and go but I think she'd be okay off the mark. 1/2lb higher would do no harm mind

The Deviluno......

I can’t see any reason why we’d change from the Albert Bartlett now he’s proved himself at three miles,” said Nolan.

“Obviously he’s very versatile because he beat a Grade One horse (Skylight Hustle) over two miles at Gowran in a maiden with The Passing Wife in third who has sluiced in since.

“He was then only a couple of lengths behind Doctor Steinberg over two and a half before he won over three, but there’s no doubt his best run was over three as he travelled so well.

“We’ll be hoping Doctor Steinberg goes in the Turners instead of the Albert Bartlett, but we’ll have to see about that.

“When he beat us Doctor Steinberg made all and got his own way, but the manner he won in Leopardstown was very impressive.

“There will be bigger fields this year with a lot of novices not qualified for handicaps, so it might be difficult to make all compared to small field novice races but we’ll see.”

I thought Khrisma did that nicely today. She has definitely been a slow burner for Henderson but she seems to have made good progress this season and I think I'd be interested in her wherever she runs at the festival.

….Ruby Walsh;

Speaking on Paddy Power Media’s ‘From The Horse’s Mouth’ podcast ‘Cheltenham Countdown’ he said: "Leader d’Allier I think at a price maybe – I thought he was disappointing in a maiden hurdle at Christmas, but I thought he was much better at Punchestown and I loved the way he went through the line and went half-way back to Naas to pull him up! I think he’s a big price and he’ll put up a good performance.

"I wish I knew where Mighty Park was going, but Old Park Star sets the standard and he’s dead straightforward, but probably Leader d’Allier at a price and I was really impressed with Sober Glory at Newbury.

I thought he was really good, I think it’s a deep Supreme, I think it’s a belting contest and I think when you look at Cheltenham even in the past, even Sober maybe who won the Moscow Flyer, he needs to jump quicker.

"But he’s starting to come a little bit, there’s a question mark over him in jumping as well too, but I think when you look at the way Tuesday in Cheltenham can shape up, bookmakers going at each other on Tuesday morning, I think there’ll be great value in this Supreme."

Ruby Walsh excited by Mighty Park

And Walsh warned against underestimating Mighty Park wherever he turns up at Cheltenham.

"He was mightily impressive on debut. He was a non-runner at Christmas and then pulled out in Fairyhouse a fortnight later.

"Had he run at Christmas, he probably would have been back at the DRF and he’d be going here hopefully not as just a maiden winner. But he’s a very, very good horse, Willie loves him, he’s compared him to Faugheen I think last week or Faugheenesque or something like that!

"He’s a hell of a good racehorse, but whether he goes two miles or two and a half miles I don’t know. I think he can – I kind of thought watching him in Limerick where he looked and you thought the way he won and he came through ‘God yeah a bit further would really suit him’."

How many of these interviews/podcast things does Ruby do ?
Seems to be constantly out there with opinions....
