2026 Juveniles

He's interesting because of his connections and the November meeting is the route both East India Dock and Burdett Road went down.

As I said last year it's likely they'll eventually find a Triumph winner, with the quality of horse they're bringing from the flat. And I hope they do sooner rather than later. But, where as last year seemed a good chance (with EID) with a reasonably weak bunch of juveniles in opposition, it sounds a lot like this year's crop are coming over from France with far greater expectations. Some are also being sent to English based trainers so it's not even as simple a value play as last year. Although 33s is probably respectable enough as a position. 16s not so much

Do we think there’s a changing of the guard with regard juveniles ?
Years ago the best recruits were from the flat but I guess the last 20/25 years the French breds have held the upper hand, is it all change ?

"There will be few, if any, better three-year-old recruits to hurdling from the flat in 2025/2026 than Hallelujah U, who achieved a decidedly useful standard of form on the level, outstaying his pedigree, and is in the care of a coming force among dual-purpose trainers in James Owen. Hallelujah U started off small, winning a novice at Southwell and an ordinary handicap at Thirsk from his first six starts. It was only when he got hiked in class and upped further in trip to an extended 14f in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot that his form really took off, as he came a close sixth to Carmers. He was only just behind Scandinavia that day, but much further behind the future St Leger winner when third in the Group 3 Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket, nonetheless confirming that he was well above average by then. His mid-division effort at Goodwood on his final start was by no means a bad effort, coming off a BHA mark of 101 in a highly-competitive handicap, and seemed to confirm he copes with good to soft going as well as firm. Hallelujah U has been gelded since and is reported on course for a campaign over hurdles. He appeals as least as much as did subsequent Triumph Hurdle third East India Dock for the same owners/trainer at this stage 12 months ago (unraced hurdles)."

Maybe. Was a bit of a shift in this year's race with two ex English flat horses either side of Lulamba. James has this one rated 100, Ammes who runs again today rated in the 90's. Then there's the two rated a monster 100+ mentioned earlier that have gone to Nicky and Dan. Perhaps things are about to change ?
 
The big put off for me about Hallelujah U is his sire.

Not one Pinatubo has been seen over hurdles, so it has to be a worry, for now at least, that they'll not be able to jump (a bit like some Frankels). Of course, he could end up a fantastic dual purpose sire, but right now, at this stage, his progeny are not for me.

Yeah point taken, but I've seen many decent flat 3yo bomb over hurdles, it could be the French 3yo (flat or NH bred) will have seen obstacles long before any of their UK/Irish counterparts so you'd imagine they have an experience advantage ?
For what it's worth I'm guessing but trends exist for a reason....

….Mange Tout WTAF 33-1 Hills (28-1 MNH, 16-1 a/r).
 
That 33s is too good to be true like. Wonder if they'd stand it...

….Mange Tout pushed out 14-1 with 365, still 16-1 available.
 
Job done, but certainly not convincing from Mange Tout, IMO.

She needs to settle if she's to get up that hill at the festival, regardless of which race she ends up in.

Was the second going to beat her but for the blunder 2 out? She seemed to take an age to rally imo, possibly tired and no doubt Elliott will have left a little to work on.
 
Perhaps it's the English Flat horses season again in the Triumph

Onto Hallelujah U. See you next Tuesday.

2nd was very much match fit and could be decent
 

Mange Tout makes it two from two​

Mange Tout (8/15 favourite) maintained her unbeaten record in the Lisburn And Castlereagh City Council 3-Y-O Hurdle.

The filly had run out an easy winner of her only start in France and made a winning debut for the in-form Gordon Elliott at a meeting the trainer regularly targets.

Elliott completed a four-timer on the first day of the meeting and Saturday got off to the best possible start with Mange Tout running out a four length winner from Wizard Of Odds. Jack Kennedy set out to make all aboard Mange Tout but the partnership was headed on the run to the second last but the eventual runner-up blundered at that flight, allowing Mange Tout to retake the lead and she only needed to be kept up to her work to make a winning start for new connections in a race that has been won by the likes of Quilixios, Espoir d'Allen and Wodhooh in recent years.

The layers, however, were not impressed and pushed Mange Tout out to 16/1 for the JCB Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

Fair run first time over our obstacles, looked to blow up 3 out then was a bit of a slow motion finish, get the hood back on to curb her enthusiasm plus she'll strip a bit fitter for the outing, I'd say the 20/1 looks better now than it did before she ran.
 
Not backed her but for anyone that has, I'd say it's a don't panic or bin yet, but be ready/prepared to do so on the next run.
Unless you're a buy and hold merchant.
