2026 Juveniles

I hear you but unfortunately not everyone has access to online accounts or chooses not to have one in which case high Street bookies are their go to.

Has schooled very well but they've not committed to going hurdling yet, I asked a few days ago.

….Mark Howard highlighting some of the Skelton juveniles;

EDELAK (IRE) 3 b g Almanzor (FR) – Edelmira (IRE)

Team Skelton has a strong looking squad of juvenile hurdlers comprising of recruits from France and Ireland. The three year old was owned and bred by the late HH Aga Khan and was progressive for Johnny Murtagh during the summer.

A son of Almanzor who has been gelded since joining Paul Nicholls’ former assistant, he was narrowly beaten by the 92 rated Delta at Fairyhouse (1m 4f : Good/Yielding) in June. Fitted with blinkers for the first time at the Galway Festival (1m 4f : Yielding/Soft), he was ridden by apprentice Miss Georgie Benson and, having led over two out, powered away in the homestraight to win by four and a half lengths (third won since).

Only five and a half lengths behind subsequent Group 1 St Leger and Goodwood Cup winner Scandinavia at Navan (1m 2f : Good) earlier in the year, he hails from the family of Ascot Gold Cup winners Enzeli and Estimate. Owned by Carsberg, Rafftery and Stennett, he could be a smart hurdler.

MAESTRO CONTI (FR) 3 ch g Prince Gibraltar (FR) – Valdivia (IRE)

Live Conti developed into a high-class juvenile hurdler last season earning an official rating of 143. Runner-up in the Grade 1 Anniversary 4yo hurdle at Aintree last spring, the Cokoriko gelding was purchased by Anthony Bromley and the same agent bought his half-brother Maestro Conti following an impressive winning debut over hurdles at Moulins (RH : 2m 1f : Heavy) last month.

Ridden by three times champion jockey James Reveley, he was trained by Noel George and Amanda Zetterholm and jumped well throughout. Leading towards the end of the backstraight, he quickened clear after the second last to record a six and a half lengths victory. Acquired soon afterwards, he joined Paul Nicholls’ former assistant earlier this month and is likely to be in action in the New Year. The Prince Gibraltar gelding is an exciting prospect for the future.
MILLE ET UNE VIES (FR) 3 gr f The Grey Gatsby (IRE) – Avacapa (FR)

A well bred filly, she raced three times over hurdles for Francois Nicolle being placed on each occasion, including in Listed and Grade 3 company. Ten and a half lengths third behind Delmegan at Auteuil (1m 7f : Heavy) in late March on her debut, she was beaten a neck by the same rival over the same C&D less than a month later.

Having chased Elisabeth Allaire’s winner throughout, she had closed the gap approaching the last and the pair were involved in 155 a protracted duel on the run-in. Three lengths clear of the third, the grey managed to reverse the form next time they met in a Grade 3 hurdle at the Parisian track (2m 1f : Very Soft) in May.

However, she was still beaten eight lengths by Olga De Kiev who had finished behind her on their previous start. Leading down the back straight on the final circuit, she was headed approaching the final flight before keeping on at the one pace. Subsequently bought by Johnny De La Hey, she jumps and stays well and one could envisage her being positively ridden in juvenile hurdles this winter. The Grade 2 Finale Juvenile Hurdle at Chepstow (27th December) could be to her taste – very much in the mould of the stable’s 2019 winner Allmankind.

PRECIOUS MAN (FR) 3 ch g Almanzor (FR) – Preciously (FR)

Another exciting three year old by Almanzor owned by Johnny De La Hey. He raced twice over hurdles at Auteuil during the spring and looks Graded material. Ridden by Lucas Zuliani on his debut in the Prix Rush (1m 7f : Heavy) in March, he stayed on in second behind the Coolmore owned The Mighty Celt (Listed placed twice since). Beaten four lengths, he had the aforementioned Bertutea three lengths behind in third.

Off 73 days, he returned to the Parisian track in late May and appreciated the step up in distance (2m 1f : Very Soft) collaring Novak in the shadows of the post. Patiently ridden throughout, he moved up between the third and second last flights before throwing down his challenge on the run-in. Winning by a head, the pair pulled eight lengths clear of the third (won since).

Bought soon afterwards, he has reportedly thrived since joining Team Skelton growing a couple of inches. The Grade 2 Prestbury Juvenile Hurdle at Cheltenham’s November meeting (15th) could be ideal for his UK debut.

He's not bred to go over jumps but he enjoys it and, if his debut goes well, we can look at the Triumph Hurdle Trial at the November meeting. He's the highest-rated of those from the Flat who are going juvenile hurdling, so it would be nice to think he can get to Cheltenham in March.’

No idea about him but maybe one to watch given the trainer. He’s a general 20-1 TH although a couple of firms go 33-1 with cash-out.

Clearly he'll be out pretty soon if they have plans on the November meeting. The Triumph would be the only race at the Fez I could fancy an Owen horse for sure. East India Dock was rated 20lb lower than him on the flat so we are talking big numbers with this boy !

Finished close up behind Scandinavia on the flat !

KARAK DE FAUST​

A three-year-old and a store filly. She’s by Zarak and I might give her a run in the spring time in a bumper but I’m in no hurry with her. She’s very nice.

PROACTIF​

Another nice type with winning form over hurdles in France. He’ll have to start off in the Graded races and if he’s good enough he’s another for the Triumph Hurdle route.

@darlojim ..... do you have a view on Secret Force for Gavin C. Was mentioned by Tom Segal as one of his 5 to Follow. Just watched his recent win 14/10 at Punchestown. Had a decent turn of foot and put a big gap between himself and the field. I have no idea if the quality was any good but he won in good style. Only being quoted by B365 for Triumph at 33/1. Could he be "under the radar" ?

Must admit I've only had a very quick scan over of him but doesn't stand out as anything special to me.

Beat the horse in 2nd 6 1/2L, but received 10lbs from that.

I'd be gobsmacked if this year a FR recruit doesn't win it. The quality they've bought just seems so strong throughout the yards.

Appreciate the feedback. So far I've been tempted in by your belief and case for Mange Tout and couldn't resist the case made by @Saxon Warrior for In My Teens.
