In fairness we have zero idea how cherry ripe she was for today.

Ricci fancied her (surprise, I know), but I imagine he had more of an idea than anyone else on here!

The fact she was ridden cold and given quite a kind ride from Paul until the last, like to think he wasn't wanting to empty the tank on her today

Im actually shocked shes still 8s and not more like a 4s 2nd fav myself.

"He settled lovely in front, jumped well in front and had enough left for a kick at the end. He's mature as well and looking at him, I think he's going to make into a nice chaser, he's a fine, big specimen of a horse. He was very green the first day he ran but he's learning all the time."

Mullins is also hopeful that there's a good deal more to come from Selma De Vary, adding: "She missed a lot of time and I think she'll improve a good bit for that run, she was a little bit green going to the last; Paul brought her wide, he didn't want to get involved with the others, and I think she has a big future."

Walsh also believes there's a big future ahead for Narciso Has, commenting: "If he stays sounds he could be anything. He will make a good chaser - he jumped one of the hurdles down the back like a fence.”

Of the race itself he said: "He done all the donkey work but he quickened up the straight to the last and pulled away. All he does is gallop, but he has a turn of foot, for all I didn't want a sprint so that's why I let him go on in front.

“That was very good, certainly different to the first time I rode him. He quickened up the straight after the last and did it well.

“The way he won the last day gave me a lot of encouragement and I've ridden him out a few times at home and at home he's felt a different horse since his first run."

On the going, he added: "It's a lot heavier than yesterday, it's tough work."

Every french jumps race seems to have the going described as heavy or very soft

You dont usually get hold up horses that prefer it really soft

They tend to be good movers with a turn of foot and are better on decent ground

Perhaps just because its easier to make up that ground on a decent surface

Willies comments very encouraging.

I would generally prefer something ridden patiently in the triumph like her than a prominent runner. Its a long way home and always the chance something goes off to fast and ruins your chances if you are on the pace.
 
French going descriptions cant be trusted anyway

The day ace impact won the arc and rosallion won the 2yo race the racing post have it as good to soft

It was good to firm ground that day
 
Soooooo what does Willie do with proactive now? Hoping he takes his chance in this, though still has supreme option I know it’s not his MO but door must be ajar after today
 
When u start looking at who came second in this race today for the past few years its become clear...lossie was second in it also.
Interesting stat! History says the result will flip in march

Wouldn’t be beyond the realms of possibility, but lossie was defo given a stinking ride that day, that’s for sure!

Which horse was the talking horse pre-season
Then what happened?
Is it as simple as the one that won at the DRF being the one?

I'd say Manlaga and Narciso Has were probably the 2 'big' hype names pre season

Narciso done everything right up to now

Manlaga probably was primed for her life on debut in FR (IMO)

New girl on the block Selma de Vary is a huge player and is very likely to be Pauls ride now (IMO)

Proactif shouldn't be forgotten about though, some saying he'll go Supreme as JP has done with previous but wouldn't be so sure myself

Some maybe EW chances with Maestro Conti, Mange Tout etc.


JP did buy another for Nicky after Manlaga - debuts on Thursday called Mustang du Breuil - very good winner in bad ground @ Auteuil, worth keeping an eye on.

Fantasy World is a good ex flat horse that Nicky has got for Lady Bamford - has had a good few entries, but not declared in anything yet.


All in all, Narciso probably is the right one, looks a very strong stayer, simple ride and will likely love the hill, with Selma de Vary one that could improve plenty for her stable debut for Willie after the weekend.

Given my first notable plays were from this weekend, that'll do - thought the second was a fair each way price after, if you were starting fresh ... don't think she'll be bigger than 5/1 on the day

Secret Force given a BHA performance figure of 120 for Saturday. 117 for previous run at Cheltenham. Based on those, not sure he’ll get much UK tax (assuming his Irish mark is low 120’s).

Had three runs, not sure when his Irish mark is published - not on HRI site yet.

Cheers JR, I thought Irish capper would give him a mark. Maybe needs to be entered again to get one, not sure.

I’d imagine he’ll go very similar to that performance rating. Could maybe do with a couple lbs!

Timeform.

Narciso Has​

Narciso Has was already Timeform's highest-rated juvenile hurdle prior to the Grade 1 juvenile hurdle at Leopardstown on Monday and cemented his position at the head of the division with a professional display, not needing to improve much on the form he had shown over the same course and distance over Christmas.

As was the case on his previous start, Narciso Has jumped fluently and kept on strongly when asked for his effort, leaving the impression that he'll benefit from the slightly longer trip and stiffer test in the Triumph Hurdle.

He was beaten by Mange Tout on his first start for Willie Mullins but, on 4 lb worse terms, comprehensively turned that form around at the Dublin Racing Festival to mark himself out as clearly the one to beat in the division.
