2026 Gold Cup

Does anyone give Galopin any chance of winning the GC? I know Willie said that the DRF run will put him right for the GC but I think he's talking shit. I really love GDC and he's been one of the best around so my heart is saying don't cash him out but my head is saying a big yes.
I've got Jango, Jukebox and Gaelic covered and think the winner will come from one of those 3. Gaelic comes here imo as Willie won't want to miss a very good chance of his son wining the ultimate prize.
I just automatically discount any ten year olds in the gold cup, would love to see him win it again though, if it's not to be one of mine !

This year more than most it’ll be tough for the older horses as we have about half a dozen 7 and 8 year olds with potential to thrive at the gold cup test

Just rewatched the Irish gold cup. Didn't realise how keen Gaelic was. If he settles then he could definitely win.

Don’t think he’ll get the opportunity now unfortunately, they’ll go Ryanair

Fortunately, the bookies priced us out of having a bet all the way through and now he is priced, nobody wants him.
True. Cocked that up didn't they. He'll not go GC. Horrible season.

Definitely his best chance of a Festival win this year. Mid trip at Cheltenham just looks absolutely perfect.

I disagree I think he’s all stamina and would be going for the gold cup if he was in any other stable but Mullins will want a favourites chance in the Ryanair with f2f inevitably switching to the gold cup

Absolutely
He’s a stayer alright.
But he does need a proper jockey imo.

….Jamie Codd;

Go for gold or win the Ryanair easily? That’s the question that’ll be facing Willie Mullins and the JP McManus team as we approach March after Fact To File 's spectacular Irish Gold Cup victory on Monday. You could call him the winner about a mile out, and he was going so well that Mark Walsh barely had any other option but to make his move and grab the lead. He travelled so stylishly and jumped extremely neatly, and it was fantastic to see him deliver the goods after being somewhat underwhelming under changing tactics in Leopardstown’s Grade 1 events last year. He’s a nine-year-old, and this is his real opportunity to win the big one at Cheltenham. I know which way I’d send him, anyway. This was a proper Grade 1 race, and several runners in behind also put their hands up for the Cheltenham Gold Cup in my view.

I’ve been keen on Gaelic Warrior since Christmas and see no reason to desert him after Monday. He’s a hell of a horse, and the way he loomed up behind Fact To File between the second last and the last was ominous. He just pulled too hard. His performance actually reminded me a little of Fact To File’s in last year’s Savills, in that he didn’t give himself enough of a chance to show himself in his best light at the finish. I don’t think you could say he lacks stamina for the Gold Cup trip, it’s just all about how this horse settles. If he can travel like he did in the Aintree Bowl last year, he’ll be well in the mix. I hope the Riccis continue on the Gold Cup trail with him. Finishing eight and half lengths clear of Galopin Des Champs tells you all you need to know.

I also want to mention an old favourite of mine in Firefox . I won two bumpers on him, and I’ve always kept the faith. I was so taken with his running on fourth under a really intelligent ride from Sean Bowen. I loved what he did from the back of the second last, and given his pedigree (half-brother to The Bosses Oscar), the run has opened an awful lot of doors for him. He’s a sound jumper and he’s still a young horse. I can see him being ridden similarly in a Gold Cup, and it wouldn’t come as a shock to me if he runs very well indeed. He’s 50-1 and bigger for the race, and I wouldn’t put anyone off having a good look at him each-way.

Haiti was a bit workman like there
Struggling to see him in a Gold Cup tbf, sticky, cold, gets into a few fences.

Yeah I agree. Looked a bad race in truth. He’s an admirable sort, but I think he’ll be 10lb shy at least. Hopefully they don’t regret not laying him out for the National.

7/1 for Haiti goldcup is a terrible price haha.
On a side note, Venetia Williams should probably call it a day
