They'll definitely start off with intention of aiming Caldwell Potter at the Gold Cup as it was always a dream of John Hales to win the race. They are looking at the Intermediate Chase at Newton Abbot first next month (same race as Bravemansgame win) and then either the PP Gold Cup or Betfair Chase (I reckon the latter will be where he goes). If he goes well in those races and staying looks his game then it'll be all systems go for the Blue Riband. He could be a very live outsider at current odds.

You not think they would go King George on the way Lobos? I've backed him for it amongst a few others. Nicholls adores that race. I also think he will be aimed at the Gold Cup, has to be the starting point but could easily drop back down into the Ryanair. Most bookies are being quite skinny with him for both races. I've been hanging back but want him in the book for both races. There are only 2 or 3 horses I am considering for two races this year. He is one of them.

King George next season perhaps as an 8yo. They won't over race him this season IMO.

what are the other two horses you like Yosser;);)

Like others have said, I'm going to ignore this year's winner at current odds as he's very likely to get beat at least a couple of times early doors and his price will definitely drift out. He could easily double up though. I can't have Galopin......he'll do an ABP and be placed but won't win again. This year's NHC winner could surprise if we get a Proper Soft Ground Fez. Race is up for grabs for sure, very much like the Champion Hurdle. Not going to be easy.

Ha ha, it's no masterplan Zeb. I have got this scenario into my head where i feel like this years King George will be the most informative for a good few years in terms of future targets. I think Willie is more likely to send an Il Etait Temps than a Fact To File but in terms of the English, i think it could make or break their targets. The Jukebox Man is one i have also backed for the King George and will back for both the Ryanair and GC. But Ben Pauling has already said he is fairly undecided on targets but slightly edges the Ryanair at this point. I have backed Jango Baie for the King George too but not for any other race. Caldwell and The Jukebox i feel could slip into either race but with Jango, if he were to win, Nicky would probably let him take his chance in the big one but would probably still be an ok price, if he gets beat, he would probably go for the Ryanair with an increased antepost price. Thats just how i see things at this moment.

So Caldwell and The Jukebox Man. The third one is Kawaboomga, i think there is a feeling on here that he would stay over the minimum trip over fences and after getting burned by Majborough last season i have taken a position in both the Arkle and BANC. I can't get out of my head, Willie saying last season that Kawaboomga would be seen to best effect up in trip but he could have been talking about hurdles and the Turners Novices Hurdle. I can see the argument for him staying over 2 miles over fences.

I am not including the Supreme/Turners runners because that is a different kettle of fish for me. I do my best every year to try and get 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Supreme, even if i don't get a massive profit, it just gives you that good feeling going into the week, well it does for me anyway and keeps your mind focused rather than throwing wild bets around come the week :D So horses like Heldam i have for both but stronger in the Supreme, Doctor Du Mesnil and Love Me Tender i have for both but a stronger position in the Turners, but if they look likely to switch nearer the time it wouldn't cost me that much to bring them into line.

It's a jigsaw i love.

Anybody got their OJA yet?

Yip, Let Fact To File win the John Durkan and have Galopin and Inothewayyurthinkin behind him, then strike

I thought I read somewhere on here that Kawaboomga has ? Mark about him.
Think somebody said he isn't back in training yet. Not heard anything about him being injured though. Elliott's have only been back in training for a week or so and Down Royal is soon so I'm not worried..... yet...

….Mullins re GW;

‘I’ve always thought that he had no trouble staying. He jumps to his right, but it doesn’t stop him winning left-handed. He’ll start off in the John Durkan and then his target in the King George. We’ll see after that, but looking at his age and profile, I feel he could be a coming force in the Gold Cup.’

Big player in Gold Cup ?
I'd say he needs to improve a stone to figure, not impossible but I'm not sure he'll have the improvement in him.
Clearly thrown in for the handicap he won at Cheltenham but that Aintree G1 was a mess, he was all out to beat a 149 horse off levels, Mullins pair (Dancing City, Quai de Bourban) were travelling strongly before coming down and the third horse, The Changing Man, an exposed 142 horse was bang upside 2 out before making a total mess of that fence that ended his chance.
Only my opinion but right now there's IKTWYT and Gallopin both 176 horses, that has to be the benchmark and that's a long way away....

Oh yes, needs big improvement but very likely we'll see it as only lightly raced. They'll aim him at the GC as Hales would have gone down that route being a race he's always chased after. Could easily end up in the Ryanair though or just skip and Aintree again. Exciting horse .

Caldwell Potter not declared for Newton Abbot. Ground.

Could now start out in Betfair Chase

Was looking at Gold Cup stats and 7 year olds running in the race for the first time do have a very good record.

Looking through the potential Gold Cup horses, I've highlighted Jagwar, Handstands, Jango Bai, Jingko Blue and Jordans who will be 7 year olds next year. Any others that could potentially step up ?

I'd say any second season chaser with a top three finish at a previous festival is worth considering

Is Stellar Story on anyone’s shortlist at 100/1? Form possibly not that solid but winning the Albert Bartlett and second in the RSA… the related double with The Jukebox Man in the Ryanair (2024 Bartlett 1-2) is a ridiculous price.
