2026 Gold Cup

Inothewayurthinkin continues to be nibbled at. Was 18/1, and now all the 16/1 has disappeared. Mixture of hope, and a realisation that the rest are really not that good?

It would need an incredible turn around in form for him to win. Looks improbable but not impossible.

If they don't correct the jumping then it won't happen, but if they do, and he runs somewhere near last year, he has every chance. The course itself is a plus and history would suggest he is a spring horse. Unfortunately, the stable form continues to be shocking - another 16 without a win. The media keep saying he has emerged from the bad spell every time he gets a winner, but he hasn't. He did me a big turn last year, and I would like to back him again, but given the negatives, I can't persuade myself to do it.

To be fair there are horses who just don't like winter and cold, when the temperature picks up a bit and the sun comes out their attitude can change in the same way ours can, if he's showing a little more now then why not let him take his chance, they pulled him from the National so there won't be another target for the year...

Yep, I'll definitely be playing him NRNB at the current price. No brainer.

I can’t figure out if Cromwell will have some really well handicapped horses and the stable form will magically transform for the spring festivals ,or he’ll have some well handicapped horses and the poor stable form continues.
I wouldn’t trust that it isn’t the former

Patrick Gold Cup....

I’d love to see Gaelic Warrior take his chance. He’s won an Arkle over two miles, a John Durkan over two and a half miles and an Aintree Bowl over three miles. Not bad for a horse who at different times has been pigeon-holed as several different things. He ran a blinder in the Irish Gold Cup, but I think it’s fair to say his best form has come away from Leopardstown. At Aintree, Kempton and Cheltenham there is a constant inside running rail, so cover is easy to find, whereas at Leopardstown there is none and the field spreads out all over the track, so he runs a little keen. Fact To File was spectacular but I would like another go at him.

Just reading the article on SL re Haiti Couleurs.

He's really had an unbelievable 12 months

Won the NHC, Irish Grand National, Welsh Grand National and Denman Chase.

Can't think of many chasers that have accumulated that sort of trophy cabinet in such a short time.

….Jamie Codd;

What’s your best bet for Cheltenham at a big price? Also, will we see you back riding?

I think I’m too old to even take the medical to get my license back now, so I won’t be in the weighing room any time soon again, Billy!

Firefox was the final winner of my career when we got the better of Ile Atlantique in a Fairyhouse bumper in April 2023. When I got off him that day, I remember telling Gordon Elliott he’d have a chance in the 2026 Cheltenham Gold Cup…

Ok – that might not be exactly correct, but I know I regarded him more as a staying type than a speed horse. He’s been really solid over hurdles and fences, but I was so, so taken by his running on fourth in the Irish Gold Cup. It’s opened a lot of doors for him, and at 66-1, I feel he’s got an each-way squeak in the Cheltenham Gold Cup. I expect he’ll be ridden quietly to come home again, and he’s shown his liking for the Cheltenham hill before when second in a Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. I’d advise punters to consider him, especially if the price holds up and the each-way terms improve.

Gives me Native River vibes

I should probably re-assess 🫣

Inothewayurthinkin continues to shorten. Generally 8/1. Crazy to think at this rate he could go off favourite. It doesn't say much for the rest, but of of course we will no doubt get the what a great race build up. It clearly isn't.
