2026 Gold Cup

What's Cobden likely to ride in a Gold Cup? You would imagine Sean Bowen would be booked for something but if Willie wanted a top jock on, Cobden would be the man provided JP doesn't hire him for Spillane's Tower

If Gaelic went down the Gold Cup route, I think it would be Patrick on him. This might sound crazy but I actually like that. Patrick doesn't get enough credit for me on how he rides over fences. It's night and day to his hurdling ability. He seems to struggle to see a stride over hurdles. Gaelic also seems to get on reasonably well with young paddy
If you backed GW, I would think get the best available , and hope the horse settles nicely.
If that’s Cobden i imagine backers would be happy.

Obvs it's all rumours and hearsay, but everyone's saying Willie wants him in the Ryanair, but doesn't JP call the shots? So his team culled the Gold Cup entry.

Given F2F allegedly ran in the BANC cos JP had had a big old swing at him for that race (i remember laughing as Walsh looked terrified being interviewed after the race), he's surely going Ryanair cos the money is down?

Fact to file was huge prices for the banc though, especially after getting beat on his chase debut, so he might have piled in at 25/1 and could have been a substantial return.

Has he been having huge bets on fact fo file in the ryanair ante post though at slim enough odds? I dont know, seems more like the sort of big bet you might just put on closer to the time. Unless he was able to get the 4/1 with Denise if he's not restricted yet 🤣

Cannot see him getting off Haiti

Just seen that spilanes tower has a decent (ish) weight for the grand national. I saw jane being interviewed today also. Anyone else a bit nervous now they may skip the GC even though im sure Jimmy said GC is the way the other day? Is it a good weight or a bad weight Gnational wise? thoughts?

Richard Johnson...

Fact To File is always a horse I have loved. He’s awesome. For me, he ticks all the right boxes.

I assume now the Gold Cup will be his route. I think he's just matured into that staying chaser who is made for the Gold Cup.

The two mile five furlongs of the Ryanair is too short for him now but I'm not sure he was really a Gold Cup horse until this year. He's really grown up. We probably still haven't seen him at his absolute peak.

As much as he was a legend of a jockey, what insight would he realistically have on a Mullins / JP horse?

I would think it is purely opinion as opposed to any knowledge.

Probably a little more than us lot I suspect

I was just typing the same before I saw your comment. Ridiculous comment from RJ there 😂😂
He's probably based it on F2F not going past Gaelic when it looked as though he had him cooked and then him not being able to keep up with the pace and go with them in the KG. Plus him outstaying everything and running hard through the line in deep ground in the Irish GC. He's got a point imo.

Can’t have it for me. The lad didn’t stay oat 2m5 two weeks ago, now it’s not enough of a test 🤷‍♀️ still think he has a chance in the gold cup mind, if he didn’t leave his race in leopardstown.

My uncle has asked me if there is a price for a british horse to win the gold cup but I can't see a price anywhere, has anyone seen it priced up?

Out of interest, what price would he be looking? What would we say is "Value"? I dont think many bookies would stick their necks out. 2nd and 3rd in the market not to mention F2F "might" not even run. So top 2 could be British with a few more knocking in and around behind.

You should start seeing some specials this week as the marketing kicks in.
I wouldn't be getting too excited about seeing a life changing price though, with three of the top 5 in the market you might be looking at a shade of odds on...

Based on Bet365's ante post book today of the first 12 horses in the betting then the odds today would be something like 8/11 Ireland and 11/10 GB. This assumes both Gaelic Warrior and F2F run in the GC. If the latter were to go GC then the odds would be flipped more or less the other way (probably 21/20 Ireland, 3/4 GB). To be clear this is based on the current ante post prices as of today.

Asking for a friend lol....
The joys of having old uncles who like a bet, but you have to find the best prices and place them for them 🤣
