2026 Champion Bumper

Surprise, surprise..... Bentraghhill now only 12/1 with Corals/Laddies.

Just noticed the entries of the DRF Future Stars Flat Race.

The race was run for the first time in 2018 and since then 6 winners of the race have gone on to run in the Cheltenham Bumper.

Those six finished 5th, 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 1st, 1st.

What a spectacular record!

Willie Mullins ONLY entry is Bentraghhill.

Based on the above stat alone , I make Bentraghhill a great bet for the Festival Bumper @ 12/1 and have backed accordingly.
That was my reasoning, but I really don’t know where I’m at with the bumper this year. Still expecting something else to come out of the woodwork

I know a few on here have him in their books for the Bumper

Bud Fox entered for a maiden hurdle at Down Royal 20th Jan

Bass Hunter could divert to a Listed event at Newbury on February 7 after being ruled out of Windsor’s valuable bumper during the Winter Million weekend.

Chris Gordon’s five-year-old already secured Listed honours when winning at Ascot before Christmas, establishing himself as one of the UK’s leading bumper performers.

After a planned outing at Windsor on Sunday was scuppered, the William Hill More Top Prices Beacons Bumper has come into range before a run at one of the spring festivals.

He just got cast in his box and obviously that ruled Windsor out, but he’s A1 and we’re thinking of the Listed race at Newbury on February 7,” said Gordon

“We might have a little penalty and as you can see he’s a big horse and a little bit weak, so I wouldn’t mind some better ground for him.

“At Ascot, it was quite soft ground that day and he was tying up in front a little bit, so I wouldn’t want to run him on anything like that again really.”

Bass Hunter is as short as 12-1 for the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival and having assessed the division ahead of a possible outing at Prestbury Park, Gordon is inclined to aim high with his exciting prospect.

He added: “I’m really keen on Cheltenham or Aintree for him and at this time of year, normally one or two of Nicky’s (Henderson) have bolted up or one of Paul (Nicholls) or Dan’s (Skelton) and there has been very few I’ve seen bolt up.

“I’m not sure what the Irish have but from what I’ve seen over here, I think we would certainly have to have that as the aim.”

…P Mullins;

Mullins is in the perfect position to be able to compare the trio and said: "Irish Avatar is a big, tall horse, but quite light-framed and narrow. He's by Poet's Word, he was second in his point-to-point and from riding him in work at home, I didn't want to let it turn into a sprint, which often it can on heavy ground and Navan.

"So that's why I made the running. We went a good, even gallop all the way and he was able to quicken up off that even gallop. But I don't think he's a horse particularly with a huge turn of foot, he has a high cruising-speed and picked up off that which is his strength I think.

"He hadn't been showing an awful lot pre-Christmas, since Christmas we've just got stuck into the bumper horses, got a couple of sharp bits of work into them and they seem to be coming forward now so I'd like to think there might even be little bit more improvement in them. He's definitely going to be a horse that will be at his best when he goes jumping.

"Quiryn was very, very, good in Nass, I'm not sure four-year-olds have the best record in the Champion Bumper. And obviously we'd had The Wager and now The Irish Avatar. I think The Wager will come forward a lot from his run and hopefully we have one or two more to come out.

….P Mullins re Gowan Pk bumper;

We'll have to wait and see but I'm really looking forward to riding in the bumper on a horse called Our Trigger who's a full-brother to Gaelic Warrior. He's only a four-year-old but he'd take the eye out of your head now and I'm a big fan of him, so I'm looking forward to getting my leg over him."

….i used the 25% Hills boost earlier for a 41-1 top-up. 365 have cut to 25-1, as low as 12s with Coral.
Insane disparity in the prices. I may cover with the 25s. Be good to see how the form works out at a higher level, both runs were run slowly.

Wasn't he 33/1 before he picked it also?

….as I posted, Jamie Codd actually put up No Walkover on 14th Jan in his ATR column. At that point he was a best 33-1 but as low as 14-1 with Lads.

A few firms have him at best 25s, Corals only 12-1.

Jennings Tip…..Nooooo 😱😱

He will have to be a machine now in order to defy the subliminal extra weight!😳

Thankfully we have Cash Out available😂

Although negative trends will turn at sometime won’t they……..
