2024 Stayers Hurdle

Ye must have been filmed before, talking about champion chase and there still mentioning Energumene

Take the Champ Kiely, on the Mullins said the horse was injured and out for the season, Patrick Mullins is today quoted as saying not to forget about the horse.
This is the most successful training operation in the history of the game but it sounds like an amateur outfit, which of course it isn't, so is it just a just of communication or something else ?
I'd be interested to see if the 25/1 Stayers price gets a trim...

They didn't know energumene was out so it will definitely have been filmed pre mullins stable tour
 
They really ought to state when it was filmed or reported on.
Would help their credibility and provide context.
Not a big ask to mention it (date and time) at the start of a podcast or article, would it ??

Yeah big question with credibility, Patrick’s comments re Champ Kiely contradict his Dad’s comments below:

‘Champ Kiely met with a setback out at grass this summer so is going to miss the first half of the season. I would imagine I'd just keep him hurdling and put off his novice chase campaign until next season’

Yeah, Patrick's article seems fluffy and very light on detail. It's probably a bit unfair to say it's a contradiction, but I can see why some would see it that way.
And who knows when Willie made the decision for him to miss the first half of the season ?
Some other trainers would possibly attempt to get them training again sooner, depending on the extent of the injury etc. Some would and could afford to be more cautious. No right or wrong either way unless going against vet's advice I suppose.

Ironically they were both filmed at the same time - the morning of 18th October. So Joe Chambers knew no earlier than we did. Quite remarkable.

I genuinely think Joe Chambers has very little input in to where the horses end up. He's no Frank Berry, put it that way.

He was Ricci's COO at Panmure Gordon and I think Ricci only employs him out of some sense of loyalty :highly_amused:

Better off to back for this IF he disappoints over fences? I'd presume he will either stay the same OR drift after a poor chase run straight post race? Then maybe come in for support when people cotton on

Great minds think alike.

He's his best chance surely?? Higher rated Hurdler than Gaelic Warrior and double Cheltenham Festival winner which GW can't boast. I don't see him jumping a fence again.

Think he'll see sense. He just isn't a natural over the big ones. No point wasting any further time trying to make him into something he's not imo. He's a brilliant Hurdler. Stick to what he does best.

Yeah disgraceful, cutting him when the trainer had said fences are plan A this season. A sign of how shallow the Stayers market is at the minute though!

Willie's Stable Tour released today ref Sir Gerhard

He was a very good bumper horse and was brilliant over hurdles. I'm going to start him off chasing again this season but he's a horse that's hard to keep right. I have a feeling we might be changing tack during the season and if his jumping doesn't hold up he's one I have earmarked as a Stayers' Hurdle horse. He has the ability and the stamina and is just hard to keep right over fences. If he stays right over fences he's a Ryanair or Gold Cup horse, but I've a funny feeling he might end up back over hurdles. He has an official rating of 155 over fences and if his jumping holds up he's probably well handicapped so a big handicap mid-season might seem the plan - he could be a Thyestes horse and if that doesn't work out, the Stayers' Hurdle.
 
Yep seen it BTT. Just don't think they'll bother going fences again especially with the GW decision.
 
I, for one, hope you're right. If you take Willie at his word then it looks like he is taking Gaelic Warrior down the same path as Sir Gerhard except GW is not as good as Sir G over Hurdles. Let's hope he spots his mistake a bit earlier than with Sir G and swallows his pride and reverts to Hurdles ASAP with both. In my humble opinion they both have a great chance in the Stayers. Fingers crossed they both get their chance.
