2023 Stayers Hurdle

….Saint Sam into 14-1 for this with 365 after that win, 33s with PP/ BFSB.

Liked that from Saint Sam. With a small injury setback for KD you wonder if he’ll be aimed here.

He will give Flooring Porter something to think about up front if they keep the positive tactics.

Surely the Coral Cup more likely.
He was favoured at the weights today and it was a typical Irish race when a lot of the others in behind had differing motives.

Was thinking the same Q.

….pre-race Mullins:

’We’re going back over hurdles with Saint Sam & over a longer trip. He’s got a big task here as he’s not well in at the weights. I’d like to see him settling and using the stamina his pedigree says he should have. But he’s inclined to overace early and I’d be worried about him here.”

Post-race comments will be interesting.

Really coming around to the chances of teahupoo here

he's rated 163 already, think that makes him the highest rated horse that will run

He's just beaten klassical dream and honeysuckle on his first go over 2m4f on his reappearance

if he improves for the step up to 3 miles, which is very possible, he will take alot of beating and being just a 6yo you'd think he's very capable of improving on that 163

The ground would be the thing everyone would point out

But he has hacked up on yielding ground, he obviously struggled in the champion hurdle and at punchestown but those races were over 2 miles and if he's actually a stayer you'd expect him to struggle at that level regardless of ground.

My hope is that he's not ground dependant its just he needed that ground over trips that were too short to bring his stamina into play. His action didn't look overly rounded to my untrained eye in the hattons grace, so fingers crossed over 3 miles the ground wont be so important.

Really hoping he runs in the galmoy to prove that stamina

in short, he's the best horse, he's 6, he's completely unexposed

in a weak division I think he has an awful lot in his favour and the 12s or 10s nrnb more than factors in the ground concern

I'm already on at 12s and think I will be topping up on that 10s nrnb

Agree entirely. Forgotten horse. Do you have access to BFX? Been chipping away at him on there. Regularly 16, 17, 18 available.

I enjoyed that, added at 11/1 NRNB (boost with Hills). One big plus that I would add to your already very good case, is that FP going off from the front at speed wont disadvantage Teahupoo the way it does some of these out and out 3 milers. Watching the last two races back you can see quite a few travelling out of their comfort zone just to keep to tabs on the leader and it pays in the sting of their finish. I cant see Teahupoo facing the same issue which lends more merit to the big IF as to whether or not he stays.

I've backed Teahupoo myself.
But I'd have my doubts about him not getting outpaced down the hill.
He travelled well in the Champion hurdle and then just emptied going down the hill and ended up coasting home in last.
It's worth watching again.

Ya Flooring goes at some pace that leat year paisley park for example is being pushed along before they even go down the hill. Then from landing at the last to the line paisley was the fastest but Flooring had him beat 2 furlongs before as paisley couldn't keep with the pace.

You made me watch the last 2 stayers hurdles back. Flooring has being a machine around there

It's genuinely a joy to behold watching him round there. The difference in how Danny rides him pre Xmas to Cheltenham is like night and day. Pre-Cheltenham he front runs but he's not being thrown at every hurdle to go fast and make ground like he is at Cheltenham. He's a star at Cheltenham and 3/3 will hopefully see him finally get the credit he deserves.
