2023 Stayers Hurdle

Do we think there's any chance Nicolle brings Hermes Baie over?

Little to no chance imo, if he was going to bring one over it would have been l'autonomie for the mares and it hasnt happened and she seems to be regressing now

Minella Crooner entered at Thurles on Thursday in 2m 7f Hurdle.

Big old price, at 40/1, if you can ignore his Punchestown run. Form ties from Leopardstown with Minella Cocooner look stronger now though, given that ones showing at both Cheltenham & Punchestown.

I might add him, actually.

I did think he'd go Chasing? He still might of course. Interesting entry though. Take FP out and the Stayers is as open as the Championship.

I thought he might go down the chasing route too, tbh. I guess Gordo has quite a few potential chasers to make the top level. Fil D'Or, Mighty Potter, Saint Felicien, Three Stripe Life, Hollow Games & Gerri Colombe, to name a few, so maybe this was the reason behind the decision, assuming that is the decision of course.

More reason to think three stripe life will be his banc horse with minella crooner out of the picture

Worth noting via Sax's Elliott diary that his record in BANC in last 10 years is 0 wins, 1 placed from 5 runners. Hardly inspiring if TSL does step up.

On the flip side, he's 2 winners, 1 place from 4 runners in the Turners in same time period, which means he's got more candidates for the Turners this year than he's had runners in the last 10 years! :dejection::indecisiveness:

I think he’ll target mighty potter and saint felicien at the turners. Three stripe life reminds me of sizing John in that he’s spent his career so far running admirably over trips too short, I really think he’ll improve for a step up in trip.
Re Elliott’s banc record you have to have the horses I guess and I have no issue with him training stayers as I think he excels at it so I wouldn’t be put off backing any Elliott horse, sooner or later he’ll win one.

Back to the stayers before I derail the thread….minella crooner is surely worth a bet at 40/1. Was fav for the AB I think before his setback last season and certainly looks like he wants a trip.

He's had very few runners in the Stayers as well with 1 placed out of 5. He did run 3 in it last year though with a runner up and a 5th. He's already said Zanahiyr will target the race so maybe he's changed his stance.

On a recent video out out by guys on the Cheltenham exchange horses to follow, One of the guys said he fancied Three Stripe Life for the BANC but has since heard from connections that the Turners is the route they’ll be going down. Of course it could all change or be complete BS

I like SF for Turners as well, so hoping that MP goes Arkle. Ideally for me it would be MP Arkle and SF/TSL Turners. Agree btw that I have no issue with Elliott's ability to train Stayers, just seems that he manages to save his best for handicaps every year or the NH Chase.

On the Stayers front, I'd like to back Crooner to cover if he's going this way particularly at 40/1, but with five horses covered in the race, I'm scared I'm turning into a guy who makes books and I've no idea what I'm doing in that regard so will probably balls it up!

Plenty of us on here that make books myself included so if you fancy giving it a go for the stayers and need some advice or opinions along the way feel free to ask and I’m sure the book builders amongst us can point you in the right direction.

Flooring has clearly been tipped up somewhere as well today

Blazing Khal now 8/1 from 14/1 with Betfair and PP. That's some move...

Interesting. No major moves on the exchanges for him in terms of being laid for the Brown Advisory at big odds.

Obviously no smoke without fire usually.
