2023 Browns Advisory Novices Chase (formerly RSA)

The point I was making is don’t believe Faugheen or Annie Power could have genuinely won an end to end 3m chase around Cheltenham, a less taxing track would & was obviously a different story. Hurdles & chasing are poles apart in relation to stamina tests when comparing Annie Power too.

You're being harsh on Faugheen. He was only touched off in the Turners by a length, as a 12 yr old!

Peak Faugheen would have been suited by an extended trip and had they gone straight over fences, I think he'd have won a Gold Cup.

If people want to guarantee themselves a stayer who isn't afraid of a battle isn't everyone missing the obvious in Thyme Hill?

A battling 4th in arguably the best ever AB - in my time following atleast
Unbeaten over 3m in chases
Multiple grade 1 winner in both novice and open company over hurdles

I've blindly assumed that there has to be two or three Irish that will be better than him, I've had him down in the box that reads 'beats up on English pigs gets found out when the Irish boats land'.
But, having assumed the Irish charge will sweep UK horses aside there's only really Gerri Colombe whose crudentials are clear, plenty of others who could go close but have questions to answer, so maybe Thyme Hill could go close.
Two issues worry me though;
1. I was at Newbury in November when he jumped horribly, really horribly, anything similar to that and he's not competitive
2. Can Phillip Hobbs really train two festival winners given Camprond appears home and hosed already...

Yeah that’s fair enough, I wasn’t really taking his age when going chasing into account.

Run4Home Morning. I hope you don't mind me asking, do you know if 1) James Du Berlais will be on the boat, and 2) if so, whether he would be headed here or the Turners? Many thanks.

I think it's still undecided EE. Final bits of work are on Thursday I think.

Based on Casey's comments a week or so ago, it would feel more like Browns or not at all though.

I was just going through the market for this race and it really is a p**s poor renewal, IMO.

Bar the unbeaten Gerri Colombe, and potentially Sir Gerhard, who has plenty to prove in this sphere still, the whole make up of the race is woeful.

So many horse have got injured, not turning up or not lived up to expectation.

The Nice Guy - Injured
Minella Cocooner - Injured
Hillcrest - Injured
Journey With Me - Crap
Gentlemansgame - ??
Gelino Bello - Crap
Blazing Khal - Stayed over hurdles
Minella Crooner - Not good enough
Ballygrifincottage - Not good enough

I think the Monkfish race a couple of years back was probably the worst one I can remember, but that was the festival when Covid struck and no owners were allowed to turn up so I could understand that a little.

It must have gotten bad enough, that I'm considering getting Thyme Hill back on side!!

I came to that thyme hill conclusion around a month or so ago

In a normal renewal I wouldn't give him a hope but if gerri underperforms i see him as the second most likely winner

All hinges on his jumping, he absolutely winged the last 2 fences at kempton, he gets into that early rhythm he goes very close. He jumps like newbury he pulls up.

The annoying this is I've cashed him out.....twice, already, at much bigger than what he is now :hopelessness:

In the words of the immortal page and plant

upon us all, upon us all a little bit of rain must fall ….come on GDL :emmersed: 28-1 has to be one if the few bits of value left in this godforsaken sea of thrift.

Beat The Goffer 21 more lengths than GC, and will have a weight advantage on top, 7 more lengths than Banbridge , 6 more lengths than Mahler mission let’s not even talk about Churchstonewarrior. All high profile horses towards the head of the market in their respective races. I was on GDL that day and was watching TG like a hawk as he jumped badly the time before and I felt he may be dangerous with a better round of jumping. Well he had a better round of jumping and he was destroyed. I’m not suggesting she will beat GC and I am a big fan of his but the disparity in prices is way too big....it’s not often you see a horse double the price in the antepost market compared with nrnb...if it rains she runs here.

ps the song was written in response to the Beatles criticising them for not ever writing love songs ....they wrote the rain song ....they never criticised them again

This year I seem to be backing so many horses that I've never thought much of; Thyme Hil, for example. The more I think about it, the more I like him for this.... never thought I'd say that.

He's entered up at Naas on the 12th, so I guess that's the target

Ftom memory - after his last run, a while back, he mentioned about finding something at home.

Unless he's gone back on that idea in the interim and I havent seen it?

He was keen to swerve Cheltenham last year (Coral Cup ?) so festival clearly not in their list of priorities…

Irish National theories for Ramillies unfounded, as he ain't entered.

He's BANC bound I think...

Assuming Henderson's horse City Cheif is a non runner, I think they may run both now, as long as they have a jockey, which should not be too difficult.
Might get a small clue tomorrow.

City Chief definitely doesn't go, will only go if something happens to GDM and even then they might re-route Ramilies...

….Bronn might be a wild card if coming here. 3m a bit of an unknown but his hurdle form at the end of last season behind TNG puts him comfortably ahead of Ramillies, JWM & Crooner. Wasn’t far behind GDM on debut & 33-1 NRNB.

Not heard Mullins mention him in recent stable tours so perhaps not coming over.
