Paisley Park potentially going novice chasing

Wow,

He is 9 rising 10, and going into a competitive Novice Chasing space.

Of course, it’s possible to drop into one or two races early season without anything decent to beat, come December it will be something to watch taking on better horses in England.

But then, Ireland’s horses and March is another thing entirely.

He will still be younger than Faugheen when he made the switch to fences. It could rejuvenate him after his lacklustre showings at the end of last season.

I don’t think we can use Faugheen as a strong reference point for any normal late years novice chase switch, he was a complete one off.
and even he didn’t quite get in front in March.

Next Destination was a 9yo novice chaser this year, though he of course missed a couple of years…

If connections do choose this route I fear they will follow a similar path to horses like If The Cap Fits last season and end next season at a loss with what is best for the horse after he fails and appears to lose his interest in racing. In my opinion they should keep him over hurdles and if they can’t get him to the standard they need for a crack at the Stayers I’d retire him. I don’t see the benefit of sending him chasing at his age, he been a brilliant horse and if he’s reached his ceiling then I’d look after him and call it a day.

Agreed he was a one-off and much loved and much missed. The point being a switch 'can' bring about a change of attitude and relight the fire to win again.

Just came to share Fancy Foundations plans but Winging The Last already has done.

Won a 2m4f chase today at Sligo.

Anyone seen any news on Jason the Militant? I thought he performed well at G1 hurdles but was clearly a notch below the top level. He's young. I wondered if connections might send him chasing.

As Aspire Tower is staying over Hurdles I'd think JTM will go chasing. He missed Cheltenham last year though and appreciates soft ground so maybe he's just one to hover over

The interview doesn't mention it but the tweet does from Racing TV, but after his win today Gordon has supposedly said that Fancy Foundations could head to Cheltenham in October. Could he be a NHC or a handicap plot horse?

Also on the RP https://www.racingpost.com/news/rac...ner-after-serving-six-month-suspension/510965

Gordon has targeted and won the 2M4F Novice Chase at Cheltenham October meeting in the past, he has won it twice in recent times, the same as the 3M Novice Chase that Galvin won.

Maybe wait to see which one he is entered into before assuming its the 3M race (unless Gordon has said its the 3M one).

Fancy Foundations wins have both been over 2M4F so far.

He likes to run him in the UK because thats where the owners come from, he ran twice over here last year.

The Bosses Oscar (2nd in the Pertemps Final off 151) is among the entries for the 2m6f beginners chase at Listowel on Wednesday (the race Back In Focus won en route to winning the 4-Miler)

Probably doesn't carry as much significance as BIF was trained by Mullins but at least we now know he'll be chasing. .............to begin with........:teapot:

14/1 TWAR looks even more appealing now IMO.
