2022 Grand National

I’m happy with my lazy assessment of he doesn’t want to get his head in front often enough - and I don’t anticipate he’s going to go to the well after 4m+

If he wins, it’d be because he’d won by the elbow.

Happy to agree to disagree!

Discorama is a 4000pt winner for me and I do agree with you both.

NC - I can see him running a big race as per your comments above
GS - the long run after the last would be a huge worry if he was in with a shout.

My shortlist is currently Cloth Cap, Kimberlite Candy, Burrows Saint, Discorama and Milan Native

Looks dry between now and the National. Ideal for Cloth Cap but not so good for Kimberlite Candy and Secret Reprieve (who could still struggle to get in)

I live right behind the course. Lovely dry day very windy for drying ground

....I’m nearby & played a fair bit of football there in days gone by. Even during fine Spring weather, the pitch was always lush and ‘took a stud’.

I can imagine it’s fabulous & safe ground to run horses on, even in a dry spell.

This quote is on Ben Linfoot's column from the middle of Feb:

Second at three Cheltenham Festivals, including in the National Hunt Chase over almost four miles, Discorama is all stamina and Nolan says he’s gearing him up for a crack at Aintree following wind surgery.
He said on Tuesday: “We’re pleased with him. He’s had the wind surgery, he’s back on the gallops now and he’s in the Grand National with the intention of going there.

“He could run before Aintree, whether it will be over hurdles or fences I don’t know. He’s not long back in, we blamed his wind for the way he ran at Cheltenham [when a disappointing fifth, beaten 39 lengths, when sent off 15/8 favourite for a handicap chase in November].

“Hopefully it will make a difference to him, we’ll see what happens.

“He went close in the four-miler and he ran two very nice races after that, he came out of it well, which they don’t always do coming out of that race.

“Hopefully for the owners, Tom Friel and Andrew Gemmell, we can get him to Aintree with a chance of winning.

“We wouldn’t be too worried if he never won again if he managed it!”

Discorama has been a nearly horse so far in his career, but he’s got the ability to land a big one. Off a mark of 149, 1lb higher than when he was a close-up third in last year’s Ultima at the Cheltenham Festival, it could be in the National, as he looks well weighted with the test of stamina in mind.

....Discorama into 16-1 with PP, still 33-1 Hills.

(Edit: Hills have now cut it to 25-1).

Two I’ve backed for the National so far are.

Kimberlite Candy 14/1
Lord Du Mesnil 33/1

Like the look of Burrows Saint for WPM as well.

My ante post picks for this have slowly but surely all dropped out, left with Kimberlite Candy, which I took at 20s, was hoping a read through this thread would fill me with some lacking confidence

The forecast has changed. Plenty of wet stuff now forecast for the few days before the race.
Obvs only a forecast but worth bearing in mind that things may not be quite so black and white in terms of the going for the race....

Paddy's have been shortest on Discorama for a couple of weeks and I've just seen that Frank Hickey (PP trader) is keen on him so it looks like they are completely dodging him.

....seems a bit of momentum behind Discorama, two of the six Sporting Life tipsters (Ben Linfoot & Dan Barber) also selecting it today.

Yeah, easy to see why.

Do you usually go to the National? I love the buzz of the place and have it on a par with Cheltenham.

Discorama still 25s on Unibet, though they have the race being ran over 5 miles 4 furlongs....
