Same fence almost caught Cape Gentleman out
 
Looked like he jumped the rest of the fences loose, but Ruby said he nearly came down at the last on his own as well.

The price is about right I reckon.
The big danger for me to this bet, is Bob Olinger.
I personally don't think they'll go 3 miles with him this season, so the arkle option will hang around for a while.
Unless Henry does something he don't normally do and make a decision early.
 
He was up and chased them round so like to think he’s alright. Almost fell a few more times without the jockey on mind
 
Ballyadam didn't jump hurdles well so I didn't think he would be the best chaser, doesn't look like he had the scope to be one aswell.. Hopefully none the worse for the fall.

Fingers crossed its not knocked his confidence too much and I wouldn't suprise if they get him back over hurdles before too long

well if one man can school a chaser it's HDB , got a job on his hands i reckon though
 
Ballyadam approached the 1st fence like I approached the railings in the middle of a dual carriageway after 10 pints of Cider in 2009.

I stayed out, got back at 3am, cried in bed for a bit and begged the wife to take me to the hospital. :eek-new::stupid:
dislocated ankle, and shoulder. :concern:
And no fucking sympathy whatsoever.:highly_amused:

I'm almost certain Gordon alluded to the fact he was more a hurdling, racy type than the likes of Envoi Allen when he was hyped up after Down Royal last year....

Ferny Hollow into 8/1 here with PP/Betfair.. 10 mins after Ballyadam comes crashing down

Henry would give Mullins a run for leaving a decision until the very last moment. So like you say, unlikely.

They could avoid 2 miles with Bob Olinger through the winter. There are races to do so. But not many.
It wouldn't take too much for them to have to drop back in trip. And that would be very interesting.
I don't think it'll be the aim to drop back to 2 miles myself. But if something forced their hand then a convincing win over 2 could alter things.

To me it seems like the 3/1 Appreciate it is considered a worse bet than say Shishkin last season and Altior in his year, both being at the same price point.
Altior had Min and Yorkhill in the markets too at the time to offer considerable challenges.
Both of those won much stronger Supremes no doubt. And 2 miles was nailed on for both. Despite winning by 24 lengths the former will always be used against him. I personally think the days of doubting him over 2 miles are over though.

The RSA could turn out to he the easier option. We just don't know. Lots of water to flow yet under that huge Novice Chase Bridge.

as we all know when PP are significantly shorter on a Mullins/Elliot runner it normally means something

reminds me of a similar situation this time last year. Malone Road was beaten by N’Golo… Ballyadam was immediately pushed out in the Ballymore and AB (quite significantly than others) and shortened for the Supreme. All the while the other bookies remaining fairly static. It was also at a time when most suspected Ballyadam was a Ballymore horse. We all know what the end result was and I think at that point PP knew

Interesting that PP have cut Ferny after Ballyadam's first fence fall.

I am not sure that increases the likelihood of him going over fences though time will tell.

If it was going to increase the chances of anyone going over fences I would have thought it would have been Quilixious given that him and Ballyadam are now trained by the same chap...
 
I wonder if it increases the chances of Ferny going to the Arkle and CPS not splitting him and Ballyadam. No matter what, Ballyadam will now have that nagging worry about his jumping. So CPS may be more inclined to throw two darts at the Arkke

Not sure they need 2 darts if Ferny is 1 of them. Plus Ballyadams inability to jump anything means he’s probably more of a hinderance as he could bring him down if falling!
 
It looked like the first time Ballyadam had ever seen a fence. I was a defender as a kid and it reminded me of the rare occasions I took the ball over the halfway line, legs and head all over the place trying to work out how the fuck I ended up there and what am I meant to do?! He could barely get over hurdles, he's never looked a chaser in the making and while i'm not going to write a horse off after one run that wasn't even a run, i'm not far off. Certainly at the level we're talking about here.

First fence falls first time out for Novice Chasers is not that uncommon. Doesn't always mean they are bad jumpers . I expect Ballyadam has jumped 100"s of fences at home and not touched a twig. Not ideal but it happens. Sometimes it's actually the making of them in that they won't do it again. He'll be back for more pretty soon if he's ok.
