2017 National Hunt Chase

That's great news. The step up in trip will hopefully give him more time to get organised at his fences. Hopefully he'll improve for having the head gear back on too. Pipe has used Katie Walsh in the past, wonder if he could convince Jamie Codd, O'Connor or SWC to take the ride.

Plenty of time for him to change his mind again though.

That's pleasing. One of my very first bets this season was on COI for this race!

Can't see him poaching Codd though ... happy with anyone though that I've heard of

I own a tiny share in Premier Bond and this is the current plan for him. Had his wind done and is properly finishing his races out now

Any idea who you might get jocked up?

I am not sure yet

Cant be O'Connor as he's booked for Fletch :devilish:

Thanks for heads up qzy. :encouragement:

Fletchers Indeed. Im told O'Connor will be in the saddle. we shall see. He needs spring ground, which hopefully he'll get. He put up a fantastic performance at the Punchestown festival winning over just short of 4m. I had him down for this ever since that race. My only nagging doubt is that you need to be a future Gold Cup horse to win this these days. Question marks remain whether he has enough quality. Haymount is the only other one at the moment of interest.

Without trying to sound rude doctorwu - when did you hear this?

jumpsracing.co.uk went to Harry Fry's yard a couple of days ago and reported:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/PitLadPeely">@PitLadPeely</a> The Irish National is the main aim for Fletchers Flyer. Could go to the NH Chase on route. Mike Legg the most likely jockey.</p>— JumpsRacing.co.uk (@CheltenhamNews) <a href="https://twitter.com/CheltenhamNews/status/831481538072154113">February 14, 2017</a></blockquote>

Their quotes on the horse too...

Fletchers Flyer is entered at Ascot on Saturday but we have made no secret of the fact that Irish Grand National is his main target in the spring."

"A tilt at the National Hunt Chase remains possible for him but that will depend on how he goes this weekend. He could go straight to Fairyhouse."

"His owners have loved going to Punchestown and the Irish National has been the 100% target ever since he crossed the line at that Festival last season. His best form all seems to have been going right handed

Missed the last couple of days so bit late to the party here but happy to see Pipe pretty much confirm this race, cheekpieces back on a big plus too. Shame Codd is booked up but i'd be happy with Walsh which you imagine would be the most likely booking. Or ideally pinching O'Connor :)

Been a bumpy ride to get here but your initial thoughts look like being very close. Leading chance so should get a good one.

Does Martello Tower have a confirmed jockey? I'm assuming Patrick or Katie loosely on connections?

Would have thought Stephen Clements might have the inside track here. Rides a lot of Barry Connell's for Alan Fleming and rode Ballychorus for Martello Tower's trainer (Margaret Mullins) in this race last year.

Any thoughts on best up and coming riders qualified to ride in this race ? Might be a bit of value outside the big names.

Thanks for the info jono. Fry said after the punchestown race that the 4miler was the target?? He even stated the same on his stable tour months ago. Hardly surprising that plans have changed.
As for the jockey, a source has said that O'Connor was a likely jockey for FF. Time will tell.

That makes sense. I really like the horse because I backed him to beat No More Heroes in the AB that year and he battled on well. Not been bowled over with his jumping compared to his hurdling if I am perfectly honest though. I wouldn't say he has improved for a fence, certainly not like other horses can.

Cheers. I guess after last year we should also be slightly cautious in regards to O'Connor too in that a switch could well be made eepecially this far out
