2017 National Hunt Chase

Thanks BOF.
If you don't mind me asking, what does it cost to bring a horse over ?
I'm assuming there are equine passports, transportation, staff, possible sedation, not much change from a grand I expect...

Don't mind at all. When he came over for Doncaster in December, it cost around 800 euros and that included groom's charges for the three days (the incremental charges they get when travelling). Peter takes his own water and stabling is free (I believe). Sometimes they need an injection to replace fluids and that can cost up to 100 euros.
It's funny - the only way to get comfortable with the cost of owning a horse is to choose an amount, double it and then put it away in an account and forget about it (...well until it runs out!)
I actually made a small profit in 2016 but, when you take into account the cost of my flights, accommodation and the speed dial to a therapist, it quickly turns into a loss

Brilliant, you know the answer, find cheaper therapists !
Thanks for that, and when the plan develops let us know, be great to have a semi personal interest in a festival race

A great insight BoF - looking forward to reading your upcoming blog.

I'm guessing the novice chase entries are announced today?

The entries are out now

Two for JP unless I've misread? Mystical Knight would look to be his 1st choice I believe

I'd imagine Edwulf will be JPs first choice if he turns up for this - he is also entered in the JLT, but JP has Buveur D'Air for that.

like that horse a lot, but hate the yard. I can never read that stable. If I'm on they run like drains like this fella did at Warwick.

Edwulf in RSA also.

What has happened to Fagan ?

You would imagine Codd could be available for CoI looking at those entries.

Fagan started the season late due to some niggles and was pulled up on his only start. I imagine they'll skip this season and keep him a novice for next and have a proper run at things.

Good luck BoF - I'll be tuning in.

Good luck BoF. How do jockey bookings actually work?! Getting Jack on board can only be a positive.... will surely out run the odds? A solid 4th :triumphant:

Good luck BOF. Enjoy the day and i hope he runs into some place money for you at least mate. :encouragement:

Hopefully the tests come out ok tomorrow BoF. Keep us updated.

I'm yet to watch that race back but certainly will with a lot of the contenders in this race running.

Champers on ice update ;)

I was amazed the horse got backed so heavily before the off on Sunday being surely a trip far from ideal. His jumping was suspect again and he really struggled throughout the majority of the race. I was worried he may get pulled up and something could have occured but he stayed on really well in the closing stages really well...the 4 miles looks ideal :D

I tried to get some information on twitter about COI's target today but I was getting nowhere haha.

Little thought whilst looking at the RSA ... current FAV for the race, A Genie In Abottle is trained by Noel Meade... but Disko and Alpha Des Obeaux are trained by Mouse Morris.... despite the owners being happy enough to run them against each other, would it not make more sense to let Mouse have two runners in two different races?

Katie Walsh has ridden Genie before ... If Nina wasn't sidelined I'd be more confident, because she rode Disko in his first two starts... but 12/1 NRNB on Disko I tihnk is okay! I wouldn't back 16s without the concession, but I think if declared it'd be half the price. VERY likely to have Katie Walsh on board I'd say? Two gigginstown runners in the RSA, just the one in this?

Disko has been very highly regarded but I would say has ever so slightly disappointed, and does look a little bit held in the RSA ... I can see Genie and ADO running RSA, leaving Disko as the fancy in this race.... I know 12/.1 isn't a huge price... but I'd think the SP would be half that.
