2017 Cheltenham JLT

The loaf will not be happy if Yorkhill misses the festival. I won't be happy if he doesn't win this race.

I am SO tired of the exchanges affecting my mood. Can't have it both ways, becayuse sometimes I use it to my advantage but iit seems relentless this year :(

I'm having a look at this race on the assumption that Yorkhill isn't running. The only confirmed runners I can see are Top Notch, Politologue and Disko (??).

Does anyone know any definite runners in this? Those above 33/1 of particular interest. Thanks.

Disko front running in this will give Yorkhill a lovely tow and hopefully settle him better

Noel Meade has said this will be Disko's target. Well done for getting the price straight after yesterday's race Kev.

I don't know about definite runners but you can get Coney Island 8/1 nrnb. He looks a really solid option.

I have him to win four figures in the RSA so I'm hoping he goes there. Can see the angle but think he needs more of a stamina test - 2m 3f won't bring out the best in him.

2m 3f & 198 yards is actual distance, according to Matt Tombs on Twitter.

How good a Flogas do we think yesterdays race was ?
I ask because apart from this race does Disko's form look good enough for a Chelt G1 ?
I've got my doubts...

The right horses turned up. Predicatbly Our Duke jumped a bit too slow and is better over further, but a horse with huge potential who is skipping the festival with that in mind. A Toi Phil won a handicap but was not good enough. Fav flopped but most thought he was an unworthy fav, (but did have some nice looking form this season)... Slightly biased for obvious reasons, but Disko has had some valid excuses - for quite a long time mind.

I take your point though, at the price he is now, you wouldn't fancy him any more than you would some of the English horses? Top Notch and Politilogue for example? (Maybe more than Top Notch, his price looks a bit silly now too)

Ok so Henderson was on RTE 2 FM today:

http://2fm.rte.ie/2fm-shows/game-on/

Confirmed Whisper goes JLT with his 4 horses split up as follows:

Might Bite & O O Seven - RSA
Top Notch & Whisper - JLT

I didn't have a copy of the RP from Sunday so know idea of the Whisper RSA rumour was true or the quotes etc but seems like it's all back to normal and Whisper is back in the race we hoped for :)

Somebody should ask Davy where Whisper runs - we might find out then although Id expect the usual ground fudge.

That does make a lot more sense. Maybe he got confused ... I didn't see the quote myself ... but the market did react that way. Maybe he genuinly mispoke? Or was misquoted?

I was in the ring with Divine Spear on Trials day, and Nicky was asked for "one for March" - he recommended Whisper for the JLT for what that is worth!

Let's assume that Yorkhill does turn up... how do people feel the race would go at the moment (assuming all turn up and NOT based on prices). Disko will go on and try and replicate LTO. The rest all seem happy to be dropped in or ridden just off the pace? Won't be a huge field either will it?

Top Notch, Politilogue, Whisper and probably Yorkhill will travel powerfully? If he hits the front too soon will Whisper out stay him? I'd be surprised if Disko was good enough to burn them all off but he may just get an easy lead?

Or is Yorkhill just a good thing if he turns up on the basis that his engine is just too much for the rest?

Tactically, with Ruby on board, you'd think he wins, he pushed the button at the right time in the Neptune, and likelihood is he will do it again in this race.

He's on the best horse, and bar the falls he seems to have he rarely gets it wrong from a tactical viewpoint when in these positions.

This all assuming he makes it to this race.

Go along with these comments. I think Ruby will be a VERY happy man seeing Disko looks to be going here as he's the perfect horse to set the pace in the race ensuring Yorkhill gets the strong gallop and pace he needs.

On the other hand the race should also suit Whisper lovely as well. He'll be eased into the race under Davy Russell creeping into it as the race goes on. He does all his best work at the business end of his races and if he's on a good day (like his runs this season) Davy will be well aware Yorkhill finds little in front so will be waiting and waiting hoping to grind down Ruby once that happens up the hill.

Luckily as good as Davy is, Ruby is the best around round Cheltenham so is THE jockey you want onboard for the job.

I don't see him as a good thing who only has to turn up but for me Yorkhill is certainly the most likely winner despite jumping concerns.
I think this will be one of the most fascinating tactical races of the festival though that's for sure

Does the JLT look more competitive than the RSA at this stage ?

Thinking about where horses like Whisper and Coney Island may end up ?

I'm not sure what will run in either race. Try naming 6 definite starters for the JLT - I can't get to 4!
