2017 Bumper

Compared to previous years the bumper is lacking real depth.

Agree CCM - pretty sure a large portion of his price stems very much from being given as Dan Skelton's best bet of the festival

Love the positivity Kev, but I think 'easily the best form' is maybe a bit hopeful!

The Ascot race hasn't really worked out that well. Carter McKay looks very exciting to me and I think he's worthy fav. There was loads of talk about him before he made his debut, so I don't think he's just a sub for Getabird.

I think his 2nd at Newbury is the best piece of form.

Carter Mckay is exciting, I agree, and was put up in here at 25s too .... I know a good few people are on :encouragement: myself included. *edit - although not for much!

I just think that the race he won against West Coast Time was not a race to be taken literally... you can find plenty of quotes from Patrick and Willie Mullins knocking the form, and J'OB was negative enough about WCT too...

I hate making this point, but it is kinda justified in this case but "if Mullins didn't train him" ... I don't think one would be 4s and the other 10s ..... I think Getabird being ruled out the same day has had some impact on his price? Not the horses fault though.

He hasn't got the battle-hardened experience you'd perhaps like to see though? Scooting away in a slow run race where they just sprinted the last 3 isn't an accurate simulation of the Cheltenham race?

Worried about Someday, was pretty taken by the way he scored the other week. Might have a WR saver...

Kev I hope you are right obviously, but why do you think the 2nd at Newbury is the best piece of form on offer? A few have run from that race and disappointed since. I felt it was good form at the time, but it doesn't look like it has much substance to it to me now.

I totally agree there are question marks around CM.... it wouldn't surprise me if we had a surprise result in this race the more I look at it. Think Someday is a potential fly in the ointment.

I'm lucky enough to be on both CM and WR at 25/1 so that makes up for the Getabird losses hopefully!

Noel Fehily at the Sean Graham preview Kev

On ATR preview they said Fehily has told a Robbie McNamara to run Quick Grabim and he'll ride it - apparently to be announced shortly. Also gave a good word for Someday & Fyonagh (if Elliot lets it run J Codd seemed to think it's possible) - no love for Carter McKay.

I like that Robbie Mac horse, won well at Christmas. Anyone give that Mags Mullins horse a chance?

Well because I like the fact historically it is an excellent race in producing good horses, rightly or wrongly, I instantly like it (the form). I feel WR was a moral winner at the weights that day too and now ... without the winner "Daphne Du Clos" being aimed there in the OC list it looks fair to me?

Which few have run in the race since? I went through earlier and none of the horses in that Newbury race have run since?

Have mentioned before that Peter Fahey thinks Bakmaj is brilliant and was surprised when he was beaten by Carter McKay. However, if you take a line through Imperial Way who finished 3rd behind Someday then Someday has quite a bit in hand of both Bakmaj and Carter Mckay. Collateral form is fraught with danger but, at 16/1, could be worth the risk.

Re - Western Ryder , doesn't quite meet all the trends kev , - Ch. bumper - Since 2004 every Winner , won L.T.Out by 1 length or more at odds of 6-1 or less . But i'm not a party pooper honest , I got it it plenty of my bets., But i will mention Irish roe again , was at chelt last nov when it flew up that hill with my khaleesi about 40 lengths clear of the next. . still available at 33-1

BC :encouragement:

Someday got a few mentions in Ireland

Daphne Du Clos does NOT run at Cheltenham.

You're right - none of the horses in the New bury race have run since. It's the Ascot race where the form hasn't been franked - guess that's what CCM was referring to

Cheers Bay... yes sorry Kev, think we were talking at cross purposes. When you said the second place, I thought you meant the Ascot race. That's the one that hasn't worked out. Obviously the Newbury form could end up being top class, but its an unknown for now.

Does anyone think Imperial Eloquence represents decent value in this. Second to Western Ryder lto who is hugely popular on here, time before finished third at Cheltenham but stayed on up the hill well. 33-1 still available and has course form and solid overall form. Also agree on Irish Roe think any sort of course form going into Cheltenham as a juvenile has to be a bonus.

I was looking at RobMulls trends over on OLBG and he has ranked redhotfillypeppers quite highly for the bumper. she is 16/1 for this, but s racing at sandown tomorrow at 3.35. currnetly priced at 3/1, i guess the price will tumble if she wins well tomorrow, and if she doesnt they may not run her on wednesday...?

It runs tomorrow instead of Cheltenham - below is from Mullins column in tomorrow's racing post.

Redhot takes Sandown route
Redhotfillypeppers will be in action in the Listed mares’ bumper at Sandown today (3.35). We’ve had success in the race in the past and we’re hoping David Dunsdon, who owns the mare, will have a good spin.
She landed her only point-to-point by ten lengths and David rode her to win on her racecourse debut at Punchestown in December.
She’s in the bumper at Cheltenham on Wednesday but we decided to go for today’s race.

Ah,

I thought i was being clever! Ah well, i will get my stake back for wednesday. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. Cheers for the response

I think there's some confidence around the Greatrex mare in todays race...
