2016 Champion Bumper

Nice angle on the mares mayo.
Augusta Kate has a great chance but is priced as though she may not run, if Mullins confirms she will go I suspect she'll be 4/1 in minutes.
What worries me is that Mullins alwasy had other targets for the horse, perhaps she doesn't have the character for the hustle and bustle despite winning a 15 runner event at Navan ?

Hadn't realised that OV, price has shortened since I last saw that market.

There's a big bumper at Newbury on Sat with a number of possible high class horses entered, could cut up of course and I could swear by it but I doubt there have been many champion bumper winners who ran 10 days or so before the race

I don't think so Istabraq; actually none of Saturday's runners are entered in the Bumper. The only horse entered in the Champion Bumper who is even entered this weekend is Good Thyne Tara of Mullins. I would guess she was only entered in case they needed to get her rating up if there had been lots of entries. Seeing as there's only 32 entries she's probably done enough to get in anyway. She could be interesting on better ground actually; decent enough form first time at Limerick (May) and then got stuck in the mud at Fairyhouse in January. I'm not a fan of any of the Mullins horses from this season except for Augusta Kate (but it seems that WPM is very concerned if she will be able to take the Cheltenham atmosphere) but am very intrigued by Good Thyne Tara (it's a tough race for mares but, at least, she's a 6 y-old) Turcagua and Very Much So of his.

How's your beast doing ?
 
If you look at the form check out the race Very Much So won on his only start.

Horses that finished 2 to 7 in that race have all been out and won and some more than once. The form stacks up well and so does his time in the race he won.

Only negative is his time off the track but the yard are confident he will run a good race and if Ruby rides you wont get 16/1 on the day

Will be seeing him myself next week but to quote Mr Fahey "he's a different horse" He should be after running last year with a displaced sternum and an undetected Grade 4 ulcer - all is good now and virtually no scar tissue from the ulcer. He has an automatic feeder in his box and is eating around the clock (Best way to prevent ulcers) We're planning to run him early April in a 2 1/2mile maiden and, let's just say, we're excited. I will let you know when he's entered. Thanks for asking!

Yep. He has won a 100K bumper but in the same tent as MTOY. Not seen since April 14.

Been told by one of the owners of Very Much So don't be worried about the time off the track he is as fit as flea.
 
That is good news, I am on at 16s and if Ruby rides he will not be that on the day.

Should run his race
 
So Augusta Kate goes to the champion bumper...7/1 does look a bit big now it's confirmed.

Great name :D and overpriced imo.

"He's been entered for the bumper at Cheltenham.

"He was sick last year and is just really coming to himself this year and hopefully he has improved since Leopardstown. He's a horse with a high cruising speed but he stays well, so he should have no problems up the hill.


"Leopardstown gets soft to heavy, but it never really gets to be that really deep ground, so it was OK for him. He's a good-actioned horse and that deep ground wouldn't really be for him.

"We skipped an opportunity at Naas with him and the horse that was third at Leopardstown won that race, which was nice to see.

"We wouldn't really want to be losing his novice hurdler status at this stage of the year, so that wouldn't really be the plan. He has options though."
 
They are on one page in saying she does nothing at home but will be bigger for racing than Vicky P if Kate wins.
 
Been a massive fan of Augusta Kate since her effortlessly impressive debut win but I wonder why Mullins never had the champion bumper in mind, all the noise suggests this is an afterthought....

Listowel Double - Augusta Kate & Gangster ?

"She's bred very well - her mother won a Grade 1, Feathard Lady, and who knows she might be as good as her," said Patrick Mullins after he glided home on the hugely impressive Augusta Kate (6/5 favourite) in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race at Listowel.

The record-breaking amateur then added: "She's a funny type at home. She doesn't maybe do a whole lot but Ruby (Walsh) gave her a bit of work last week and he said there's lots under the bonnet. She just keeps it until she really needs it."

The victorious Yeats four-year-old was always on the pace, she led three furlongs out, and she streaked away over the closing couple of furlongs to defeat L'Atmosphere by no less than twenty three lengths.

Willie Mullins, doubling up after his win with Gangster earlier, said: "She's obviously alot better on the race track as in her work at home she was just staying on. She showed gears there today that she hasn't showed at home.

"I'm not sure where she will go next. She could go for the mares bumper at Navan, and she could go hurdling this season. We will have to have a think about it.

"There are seven in the Masters Syndicate. Ant and Dec, Chubby Chandler, Lee Westwood, Alan Shearer and Graham and Andrea Wylie."
