2016 Champion Bumper

I've watched Alan king's criq Rock closely all season and when it beat bags groove I thought it had showed everything you want from a bumper type. Decent turn of foot, travelled well and had the gears to go through the field and then the most important bit, he proved he can fight off the bridle which is a massive for me as plenty will come here after mopping up easy races.

After criq rocks run the other week I did think it was barely put in the race but thought it might have been a bit of pocket talking until I seen quotes from king to say it missed newbury on the 13th due to a bad scope and had actually been on antibiotics. It seemed to make sense then - they had a month to get it ready and had said for months it needs a run. The race he went in now seems like it was thrown in for the experience being the only race it could go in to leave enough time to recover from the medication and then the run in time for cheltenham.
Hutchison Hadnt made a move 3 out the other week in a race that was always going to suit front runners from the off. Compare it to when he beat bags groove when he began making a move 6 out!

He gave bags groove 7lbs there and bags groove has just franked that massively, pulling clear with one he was conceding 8lbs too. That winner of ellisons brought decent form and that race had to be ok considering kings favourite was backed and the yard have won 3 of the last 7. Henderson also had a second season bumper which should hint at ability and greatrex had one that hosed up last time.

On form lines and ignoring criqs last run there's an argument to say he could well have set the standard when beating bags groove so I think he's huge at 33/1.

Since 2006 king has only had 2 runners in this race and one was yanworth so I'm hoping the trouble they've gone through with this is a hint in itself. There's no way a horse runs within 2 weeks of antibiotics under normal circumstances.

Ben Pauling ‘only bet’ of the meeting is on BattleFord for Willie Mullins in the Champion Bumper. Ben bought and trains the horse that used to work up alongside this Mullins horse. Mullins bought this one and Ben got BALLY GILBERT – he really likes this horse, and told us all to look out for him when he runs in a bumper – I suspect the word will be out and he will be short – but I get the impression he is expected to hose up. It is Ben’s appreciation for what he has on his hands that makes him appreciate the Mullins horse..
 
I think Ballyandy sets the standard.

Battleford probably the best of Mulins imo but a very trick race.
 
I keep going over and over this race and keep finding something different.
I've just taken some 40 about Compadre of Jonjo's, I know he has a terrible record with races under 2m 4f at the festival and I know the horse hasn't won a big field race but he is completely unexposed on his Bangor debut win and nothing in this is standing out for me....
 
John Ferguson's High Bridge could be a decent shout for this at a nice price, he won last time out by 13l on the bridle, 2nd and 3rd have since come out and franked the form, even the form of his debut race, 2nd in behind Ok Corral now looks to be rock solid, he's been tapped up by Godolphin to race on the flat next year and Aidan Coleman says he's his best chance of a winner at the festival.

Coleman said: "High Bridge is a horse I like and could be my best chance at Cheltenham.

"He has won at Huntingdon and Catterick and has done everything nicely, while he has also been placed at Cheltenham.

"I rode work on him the Saturday before last up in Newmarket and he worked very nicely indeed.

"I will be gutted when he goes to Godolphin next year."



Into 6's on the exchange, massive gamble

I am with you on that Ista, so staying away for the meantime. This race looks as tough as the Triumph and could still go to an improver.

I had a small bet on Coeur Blimey, but only to the fact it was a heads up from a good source and we all know how it feels when a tip wins that you didn't back.
 
I think it would have paid off over the years LR, Dunguib, Moon Racer, Liberman, Missed That all well backed winners off the top of my head, and the key is they were all heavily backed shortly before the race....

I actually backed MR ap last year at a decent price due to a heads up(not tip) from my Coeur Blimey guy, which made me study his form and was more than convinced.
 
Moon Racer kicked off 9/2, wasn't he something like 8s in the morning ?
 
I think Ballyandy is probably the one but hearing the right kind of pundit talk up Jessies horse - New to this town. she has an amazing strike rate over 2 miles at the Festival
 
What is going to improve on good ground ?

There is no form on ground they will get today.

Ferguson has 5 running before High Bridge and will wait to see how they go before going the forum pick.
