No Menorah, Triolo, Long Run or Sir Des Champs.

I'm a bit surprised Trio doesn't get an entry after his recent run, excellent performance under top weight. There was an interesting article I read a couple of weeks before Crimbo regarding Shutthefrontdoor, connections [including J P McManus] seem to think they can get him there with a live chance, wasn't on my watch list before that.

Triolo being aimed at Grand National isnt he ?

Will probably have too much weight but he was good over the fences in the Topham.

Bad stat for the two Bobs

Age: Seven to nine-year-olds have a stranglehold on both the vast majority of winners and runners. But those at double digit ages have been well represented with little success. Specifically, Cool Dawn's 1998 triumph was the only one in the past twenty years.

The elder statesmen have notched ten places from 74 runners since 1997 (13.5%), which is again materially below the place strike rate of their younger counterparts (41/167, 24.5%).

12 of the last 23 winners of the Gold Cup were second-season chasers from considerably less than 50% representation.

More or less equates to the 8 year olds

Should we be focusing on:

Road To Riches
Many Clouds
Carlingford Lough
Holywell
Morning Assembly
Sam Winner

I added Road to Riches to the chasers to follow section and will have a look through the rest.

The stats are really bad for Bobs Worth

Looks like he will go into the race like 2013 off just one start this season and apart from himself in 2013 the last winner to achieve that was Garrison Savannah in 1992. Notable names to have tried and failed have included Looks Like Trouble (started favourite) and Denman (started second-favourite).

Also only Kauto Star has regained the Gold Cup after losing it.

The last winner aged over ten was back in 1969.

For all that he has placed him brillantly this year I would find in very hard to back a Noel Meade runner in the Gold Cup.

Have been thinking about that 10 year old stat.

Bobs Worth must be one of lightest raced 10 year olds ever to run if he makes it back there. Still only been beaten once around the track too.

Pricewise

Holywell and Carlingford Lough

Harry Topper and Conygree about only two left who will have a run in Uk.

Interesting Henderson said race still under consideration for Ma
Filleuile. Gets 7lbs from the boys and preferred here to Holywell who is about 1/4 the price on Betfair. 5lb swing in weights for 1.5 length defeat in 3 mile handicap at last yards Festival.

I like Carlingford Lough but run in the RSA is hard to forgive. missed the first and got into no rythmn at all. Holywell might be a spring horse and form of Aintree win over Don Cossack reads well. Been piss poor this year though and since pricewise two picks involve some form of "forgiveness" I have decided to forgive Bobs Worth for my tip. 16/1 available.

early enough for you Hoof

A bit of jockey analysis here:

http://www.fatjockey.com/cheltenham...ham_races.php?Cheltenham-Gold-Cup-Jockeys-156

Ruby, Barry and AP - have won 5 of last 10. I think that trend gets repeated in a lot of the Grade 1s at the meeting. I'll work through more races in countdown but also had half of Supreme http://www.fatjockey.com/cheltenham...m_races.php?Supreme-Novice-Hurdle-Jockeys-153 and from memory must have won at least half Arkle, Ryanair Champion Chase and World Hurdles.

My own strategy is always to try and work out what they are on before I look at anything else !

The betting for the gold cup has a lopsided look to it with SC clear fav thus giving us punters a chance of real value.Whatever your pick is for this race I think its a must to hav a bet now before the Irish Hennesey in a couple of wks time.I'm already on Boston Bob at 25/1 and I'm going in again at 20/1 with Coral NRNB.I feel this is a spring horse who acts on the cheltenham course and it looks like Mullins is bringing this horse to peak on the big day.If he wins the Irish Hennesey then obviously his price will collapse, I think he'll go very close at the least.
