2015 Gold Cup

Was Many clouds idling

If you back MC then you got to back HDO at 40-1.
3 & 3/4L behind in the Hennesy. First run for 6 months also giving 6lbs has more value.

Both ground dependent though so not for me.
It is probably best to bet on the day for this race. SC will always be favourite so there will always be value in the others.

Agree HDO is a soft ground beast but is Many Clouds really ground dependent ?

I don't think MC has won or been even close to winning on good ground? Maybe I am wrong and he is a different horse now.

Must try and rig out a few quotes - point taken though

A fair bit of love for RTR on my timeline but

It's so difficult for a trainer to have a horse well enough to win a major chase at Christmas then have it in peak condition for the Gold cup, I think that's what seperates the great trainers from the others. It will be a very impressive feat to win the Blue Ribband with RTR, Mullins Culloty and, maybe, Henderson certainly left something to work on with Boston Bob, Lord Windermere and Bobsworth, I would have similar concerns for MC, has already been asked to peak twice this season, still it can be done so it will be interesting.

^ I think this is true. RTR won the Galway Plate ...on the go a long time.

Looking at PP betting for Gold Cup maybe Ruby is swaying towards Djakadam over Boston Bob,Sunday's Hennesey is going to be informative re the chances of Boston Bob.

For sure. Townend is a good sub.

Interesting the confidence behind Many Clouds on here. Anyone fancy Holywell, 2 out of 2 at Cheltenham and at the festival, Group 1 winner, last April had Many Clouds 21L behind at Aintree on good ground. Never wins before Xmas, and Jonjo's horses coming back to form.

Jonjo gets them right for Cheltenham and like to be with a second season chaser in Gold Cup but niggled by Holywell jumping and campaigning in handicaps. Many Clouds has course form ticks second season chaser box but how he might act on good ground an unknown at best.

Ripe for an upset ...

Ruby on Sunday

Following much soul-searching, I have gone with On His Own in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Leopardstown tomorrow.

This looks a fiercely competitive renewal, on a cracking programme that promises so much and to be hugely informative.

I discarded On His Own, in favour of Boston Bob, in the Lexus at Leopardstown at Christmas and got that wrong.

On His Own ran a smashing race to finish second to Road To Riches, while Boston Bob could only manage fourth.

Have I got it right on this occasion? To tell you the truth, I really have no idea. Both horses are working equally well and it is just a case of hoping for the best.

On His Own does have a marked tendency to jump to his right, so I am going to have to do my best to keep him as straight as possible.

What of the opposition? Well, Lord Windermere has enjoyed two great days at Cheltenham, but Leopardstown doesn’t seem to be his course.

Chances are he will now bite me in the backside after that remark, but you can only cross the bridge as you go!

Carlingford Lough was fifth in the Lexus, but that was his first outing of the season and he’s entitled to come on plenty, while my father’s Foxrock shaped well when winning a handicap in fine style on this track last time. It’s wide open and we will all be a lot wiser come Sunday night.

Can OHO or BB win the gold cup? Surely Ruby can't fancy them both.

I never back Ruby's horses when he cannot make up his mind on which to ride.

So, does Coneygree come here or go to the RSA, trainer seems undecided, he looks to be a proper horse though, jumps well and travelled comfortably, maybe lack of experience will tilt them towards novice company.

Most probably the novice route if the ground is good. I doubt they would want to take the chance of throwing him in the deep end so early in his career and on untested ground. In many peoples eyes today Coneygree may have the potential of being one of the great chasers of his generation.
