2015 Arkle Trophy Chase

I'm not reading a lot of love on these pages for UDS and thats after a near perfect record from the horse. Its all about opinions however,I'll let this horse do the talking tho, I like to judge a horse on what I see rather than ratings and on what ive seen so far with UDS this horse has serious pace and can maintain it to end of race.Sunday will tell us all an awfull lot!

Hi Iain
The problem I have with UDS is that he's looked impressive against low rated opposition, in the main, and that doesn't really entitle him to be as short as he is for a race like the Arkle, which is the foremost 2 mile novice chase on the planet. On a regular basis you will see a decent horse cruising along on the bridle whilst those behind toil in their wake, they do this becuase they are far superior to what they are running against, that sometimes leads to them being over-rated when they move to a higher grade when they are asked to make a greater effort and they find little or nothing off the bridle, if you look back to his French visit when beating Gemix, it was very laboured whereas several of the horses that have run in top company in England, that have met Gemix, have dispatched him without the slightest difficulty. I'm looking forward to Sundays race, and if he does to Clarcam and Gilgamboa what he's done to others then he will have earned the right to head the Arkle market and I will relish the prospect of an impressive championship display.

Sundays race should tell us more about UDS than the last two years of careful placing

A couple of thoughts - will he end up with three runners ?

9 entries is insane.

Willie Mullins IRE
Adriana Des Mottes,
Blood Cotil,
Florishwells D’Ete,
Gitane Du Berlais,
Jarry D’Honneur,
Un De Sceaux,
Upsie,
Val De Ferbet,
Vautour

considering he only ever has had 11 runners and managed just one place.

2003 F Adamant Approach Paul Carberry 7/1

Mullins just covering all options as usual mayo, if UDS wins on Sunday I reckon he'll be the only entry, and going back to Mr McG comments yes I can see where your coming from regarding what he's beat but same points cud be used against Faugheen whose odds on in a place for a champion hurdle.

Faugheen beat a decent Neptune field at last years festival easily, same route as TNO, then he had Irving [fighting fifth winner] well beaten before Nick Schofield eased him down. I take your point though regarding his price, it looks far too short, but the Champion hurdle field looks weak historically, beyond the first 4, so the bookies won't want to take a chance, especially with his proven Cheltenham form. As I said I am looking forward to Sundays race to see if UDS can step up, if he slams these two I think he must be a penalty kick at the festival, apart from the fences possibly getting in his way.

Smashing hacks up to boost the UDS form.

He certainly did and it definitely does, looked like a good performance, again it's hard to know what he beat but given the way UDS beat him it leaves UDS looking a much better proposition for the Arkle.

Is Josses Hill entered anywhere?

Was in the Lightening but not declared.

Ruby on Sunday

You should fasten your safety belts for the battle between my horse, Un de Sceaux, Gilgamboa and Clarcam in the Grade 1 Arkle Novice Chase. If ever proof were needed that you do not need a lot of runners to provide a great race then this is it.

Clarcam has a rating of 156 and it is hard believe that he is likely to start the outsider of the trio. My gut instinct is he is flattered by that, but time will reveal all.

To be honest, I can hardly wait to throw my leg over Un de Sceax, in what I regard as a proper race. He’s a horse that wears his heart on his sleeve and we will be belting away from the start.

I hope we can do it for owner Eddie O’Connell, and his family. They are really enthusiastic and would derive enormous pleasure from winning such a prestigious contest.

Gilgamboa and Clarcam are clearly two dangerous opponents and if one or both can go by me in the closing stages then good luck to them.

Mixed reaction to Three Kingdoms win at Donny.

William Hill have pushed him out to 33s. Nearly everyone else has cut him to 16s.

Jumping went to pot but he has a good engine.

According to the pie chart under the betting on Oddschecker for this race the largest amount of bets are still for Vautour, same for the JLT, I wonder if a lot of people are splitting their stakes between the two just in case. I notice that for the Irish Arkle tomorrow Clarcam gets 10lb off the other two, he needs to go very close to be a live contender in March I would think.

Tomorrows race ireland is THE cheltenham trial his weekend - one of the three wins in March imo

UDS will win tomo imo and the other two wont reoppose in Arkle at chelt.

Clarcam is getting a lot of weight so needs to serve it up to him today.

do you think the others will go to the JLT ?

Betfair sportsbook are 7/2 for UDS to win today and the Arkle if anyone's interested.

With the incomparable Ruby Walsh and AP McCoy pulling the strings, it promises to be another thrilling spectacle, and the same revered duo will also be in the thick of what promises to be an utterly compelling edition of the Arkle Novices' Chase.

Walsh is aboard Mullins' insatiable front-runner Un De Sceaux, with McCoy on Gilgamboa, a horse with the potential to thrust Enda Bolger into the big time for real.

Throw Gordon Elliott's giant-slaying Clarcam into the mix under the excellent Bryan Cooper, and it just might be the best three-runner race we'll see all year.

have his jumping thoroughly examined.

The evidence of his Fairyhouse display suggested that he has learned from his careless Thurles fall, but Clarcam and Gilgamboa may well have the quality to keep tabs on him early and at the very least test his fencing in the final quarter-mile.

Clarcam receives a valuable 10lb allowance. He may have been a slightly fortuitous conqueror of Vautour last time, but he is clearly a better chaser than he was a hurdler, so he shouldn't be underestimated.

Gilgamboa is even more of an unknown quantity, though he has looked versatile in terms of trip and ground. His form was franked when Wounded Warrior, third behind him at Limerick, won a Grade Two in style at Navan. As a strong traveller and clean jumper, the sky is still the limit for the seven-year-old.

Verdict - This will be fascinating but Un De Sceaux may be something special.

I can't remember looking forward to a non festival race as much as I am for this. I can't wait to see if UDS can do it against this calibre of opposition.

I am way more excited about this than the Jezki Hurricane Fly showdown which just feels like Groundhog Day now.

It's one of those races that doesn't even need a bet !
