2014 Supreme Novices Hurdle

What will AP ride in your opinions ? Is Regal Encore best they have ?

Nothing jumping out at me. Minella Foru not good enough. If West Wizard turns up could be on Josses Hill or other way around?

Think AP will be on one of Henderson's would be josses hill if west wizard makes it which is looking pretty unlikely now. I think they would probably be better off keeping his novice status and putting him away for next years supreme personally.. this weather doesn't look like going away any time soon... really warming to the tank now, 7/1 to win at the festival is a really good price i think and iv'e gone in a few times now:cool:.

AP has been placed in 5 of the last 6 Supreme Novices

2013 2nd MTOY IR low 1.51
2012 2nd Darlan
2011 3rd Sprinter Sacre IR low 1.31
2010 2nd GMOOH IR low evens
2008 2nd Binocular

Back to lay material.

Regal Encore ruled out ( interesting mark though)

"He's fine and ticking over. He'll have an entry in the Imperial Cup. I don't think he'll get in any of the handicaps at Cheltenham off his mark of 130, but we'll enter him in them and see," said the Dorset trainer.

"He's in the Supreme and the Neptune but he won't run in either of those, I'd have thought.

"The Imperial Cup is where we are aiming him for and hopefully he'll have a good preparation for it. It would be nice to go for that and see where we are."

Well folks with the Deloitte hurdle this weekend do you think that the winner (unless it's Faugheen) will be installed as the new favourite for the Supreme? It will be interesting to see if Mullins takes out Faugheen as he has Valseur Lido, Renneti and Vautour entered as well.

I realise also if someone like Irving wins the Betfair hurdle that this will shake up the English side of the market as well. Should be an interesting couple of days for the market with First Moehican also running this Thursday I think....

I think you might have the same favourite after the Deloitte !

I'd say noises from Nicholls indicate Irving won't run.

Sgt reckless

The Sky Bet Supreme Nov-ices’ Hurdle is his target at the Festival, and Channon said: “We think he’s a lot better horse than what we’ve seen.

“He ran very well round Kempton on Boxing Day when the ground was very soft, but I promise you now, he’s one of the nicest horses I’ve ever had. He has a great turn of foot.

“He works like a very good horse.

“I would love to see him on some decent ground and then we’ll see how good he is.”

Irving confirmed as NR on Saturday. Menorahs race at Ascot the following week ?

I think First Mohican could be interesting. Worth a few £££ today anyway.

King sounds bullish

‘He has been very good over hurdles from day one. I want to get Doncaster out of the way first but the plan would then be Kempton for the Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle. I would want to get another run into him from an experience point of view.

‘He has worked very well and seems a tough horse who will take his runs well.’

Yeah he showed some guts alright. Not sure if he's a supreme winner but interesting nonethless.

Kings seems to send very few horses to the Supreme. Place money on the last two

Alan King (First Mohican, Gone Too Far, Lord Of Scotland, Wilde Blue Yonder)
2003 7th Jaboune Richard Johnson 50/1
2004 8th Bourbon Manhattan Robert Thornton 20/1
2005 15th My Way De Solzen Robert Thornton 8/1
2009 2nd Medermit Robert Thornton 12/1
2012 4th Montbazon Robert Thornton 15/2

massive race for ' the tank ' Sunday glad i'm off work its going to be a cracker.. been going in quite regularly on him for any race at Cheltenham so hoping for another solid effort.. 7/1 is a very decent price considering he has won 2 grade 1's this season. Anybody got a link to the race Vaniteux won today?

Think segal will latch on to TTT at some stage. Vaniteux won like a good horse today. Franked sgt reckless and the porge's horse form. Video might be on RPTV. Will link if it is.

Nice attitude from my horse today. Think he is a decent ew shout now.

If king runs him he deserves respect. At the same time hard to believe there isn't something with more potential out there. Video here:

If The Tullow Tank wins Sunday will be first sin Istabraq to win the three grade ones in Ireland.

First Mohican tipped by Gary Nutting

Every now and then a class act from the Flat makes the transition to hurdling look so easy that you can't help thinking it's going to make a big impact in its new career.

That was the distinct feeling I got from watching FIRST MOHICAN score with plenty of authority on his jumping debut at Doncaster, which makes the 20-1 for the Supreme hard to resist given it's his only stated aim at the Festival.

Rated 108 after winning a hot handicap for Henry Cecil at the Dante meeting on only his fifth start last May, the gelding looked as though he'd been jumping hurdles all his life as he engaged cruise control for much of the Doncaster race.

As a result he took Robert Thornton to the front earlier than he wanted, but the good thing is he knuckled down when

push came to shove approaching the last and won cosily despite idling on the run-in.

The slightly awkward head carriage he displayed in the closing stages might worry the purists, but I wouldn't blame any ex-Flat horse for registering some sort of disapproval at the type of conditions they're having to cope with this winter.

Besides he had every opportunity to chuck it in if he didn't fancy it given that it's a long way home up the straight at Town Moor on holding ground, especially for a horse that had tanked its way through the race.

A stronger pace against classier opposition looks sure to bring out the best in the six-year-old and it was noticeable how both Thornton and Alan King were adamant there's lots more improvement to come.

Quite why some bookmakers didn't trim the price they were quoting before he'd jumped a hurdle in public is baffling to say the least. Whatever, 20s now strikes me as good value given that he was a top-priced 25s, with just one firm, a week before his 'debut'.

King wasted no time in nominating the Dovecote at Kempton as his next target and victory there - the speed track should play very much to his strengths - will surely see him down to single-figure odds.

danny mullins horror show.. let ruby have his own way up front which is a massive mistake, rubys the master at that. tullow tank needs a quick pace and when it quickend mullins didnt get close enough poor poor show, might make the tanks price for cheltenham now though lol, jockey worries me

Vautour 5/1 favourite now. Did it well but thought TTT looked flat.

Yep. Ted Walsh was saying he might need further but that probably means bumping into Faugheen. Mullins also said Clondaw Court is out of Cheltenham on RTE.

yeah probably a worthy fav after that i still think the supreme is the race for TTT and that's not pocket talk either lol.. needs a fast run race though in my opinion and didn't get that today, most supremes have a fair bit of pace in them last year was the exception though.Rich Ricci has some serious novice firepower
