Preview Evenings - links, details and write ups

I'm looking forward to paddy's preview night on Monday. I'd say that'll be a good one.

I know alot really like the racehour one and it has been good in the past but I found it a bit tiresome this year.

Yeah same. Limit to how many times I can hear Keenan say he doesn't know or care, and Fogarty and Mullins were both on terrible form and had nothing useful to add. Jennings was really struggling with the low vibes

I have mostly given up on the previews. They used to be a lovely warm up but I really struggle to find one that is amusing or interesting or too try hard.

The proliferation of everyone talking about Cheltenham non stop means I know what they all think anyway. Genuinely would just rather re read threads on here

There was one linked to Boyles where the presenter and Hanlon even got the sex of Golden Ace wrong. Then Power tipped Ballyburn. It couldn't get more embarrassing.

Last two comments sum it up well. Really think we're beyond peak interest in preview nights now. Reckon that's becoming obvious with the panellists as well. Fair play to any of you still sticking with them.

You know your struggling for preview content (me) when nial quinn (the shark.. Power..Boyle one) convinces you to look again at banbridge in the ryanair chase lol.. To short if you ask.... I woild back at 16s...but not 8s

They became too commercial for me, the privately run ones were good but as soon as the bookies started doing them there was a different agenda created and none of it for our benefit.
Go back 20 years before social media dominated everyone's lives and you'd go to these evening and learn plenty, there would be nuggets everywhere, in todays world of never ending reporting, be that from professional platforms or those in it for the clicks, there are endless updates even when there's nothing new to say so I think the preview circuit loses its' value as an education and becomes a night out on the piss...

100%, who wants to hear half a dozen pundits talk about whether Lossie goes Mares or Champion Hurdle for half an hour, I'd much rather they spent that time on the Kim Muir or Bumper, a race where there's every chance something has slipped under the radar.
I remember being at a preview years ago and Choc Thornton spend about 10 mins telling us about Bensalem's jumping issues and how they sent him for a couple of spins around tough jumping PTP tracks, how this helped, what they'd done to get him focused and how they'd run him, it was a brilliant insight, he duly won at 5/1 having been almost double that price during the preview.

Also remember Ballynagor, Tom Scu telling us he was a notorious bleeder but the secret to him was giving him plenty of time to recover between races, he only ran poorly when he had less than 6/8 weeks between runs.
Scu said he was working the house down and would make a mockery of his mark, he hosed up at about 14s.

I did run down the horses and stopped at Banbridge for a second thinking he could very well team up with PT again. He'd need his ground though.

Not to turn this into a whingeing thread but agree with the last few points but also have another few gripes. Firstly, it's great that we hear from shrewdies like gavin lynch for example, but their view on the races as they stand are already tarnished by ante post bets they put up to their subscribers. He could hardly say he's gone off one now that he liked 6 weeks ago because people have paid him for that info, so he tips based on what he's already said. Of course, as an old hand you can sort through the chaff, but it is frustrating and not particularly insightful. Also would really love if the trainer segments went line by line through their entries asking their target/s or whether they are expected to go at all. We all know about teahupoo, what about kish Bank etc, don't care whether gordon thinks he'll win, is he intended to go? Rant over

The problem for most on the forum is that you are far more knowledgeable than most on the panels. Nor do we want endless chat about the G1s. You have to listen right to the end to even have the handicaps getting a mention. That’s my opinion fwiw.

The only thing I've taken from a preview was getting an invite to the Mirror/Betfair one at the Emirates though work and someone asked Gordie about the storyteller and he replied "he'll miss the festival though injury....but you're a smart man". I followed him relentlessly after that lol.

At the same event they wouldn't let Paul Nichols in as he had no id as I was coming in. I pointed out he was on the poster behind them and they let him in and we shared a chuckle. This story would usually end with a good tip for Cheltenham, but alas, it was Paul Nichols

I assume you think he can win a Champion Hurdle, otherwise why back him? I wouldn't give him a prayer. He isn't good enough at any trip, and I don't think they know what to do with him. He won that DRF two-mile race in a dreadful year. He beat Slade Steel - has he won since the Festival - who actually made up ground on him relative to their previous bumper clash. His best form at the minimum was finishing second to Sir Gino over fences, but he has more than paid the price for reckless escapade ever since. Real shame as he promised so much.

I guess any horse can win a champion hurdle. Doubt many were sat here last season saying 'do you think Golden Ace can win a champion hurdle'.

That part is actually not too important to me though. As I said, he's either a non runner so money back of he goes off at a good bit shorter price. At which point I can re-evaluate the position. There's nothing to lose with the selection, it's actually a decent play. Certainly not one I'd be going online to criticise...

I was at Ditcheat yesterday and a good morning a few things of note that I can pass on:
Paul will supplement Tutti Quanti (hes not concerned about g/s ground)
Talk the talk - trainer wants to run in supreme owners prefer Turners
Mighty Park - has worked very well and leaning towards Supreme but nothing decided, Paul wants him in supreme for obvious reasons
Kopek did beat Imp et Passe by 15 lengths in work recently, rumours that Romeo unlikely to go to chelt
Mets ta centra - skelton was planning on running her at Aintree but with allowances and recent work hes tempted to roll the dice in the bumper
Macho Man - Paul is considering riding in Triumph
