Novice Chasers 2027

Dan has talked out of his arse about this horse ever since he's had him.
When he's adrenalised he is prone to spout shite, and he also spouts shite to cover his mistakes and poor decisions.

(Don't get me wrong, I'm not down on Skelton as I think he's a fantastic trainer and likely to get as close to Mullins as anyone has in the last decade or so. But that doesn't mean he has no faults, or doesn't make mistakes, same goes with Willie also).

I don't think that any of this has anything to do with the horse's ability though.

Although, I agree that the horse may have a weakness in him.
But IMO the hole you mention is more than likely to do with gears.

Like Harchibald, he may be another extreme example of a horse that does so much on the bridle, when he really needs another gear against the type of horse that is willing to burst it's heart to please the jockey, it isn't there, because his cruising gear is so good anyway. He's basically giving you all he's got on the bridle.

He's still a real contender in grade 1's IMO but probably vulnerable to something that can live with him to a point and then outstay him in the finish.

Harchibald never stopped like how Kabral did up that hill though, he just never found anything else

Kabral was nearly unconscious in the yards before the line
Agree though that something with a bit of fight in them will be able to outbattle KDM up the hill

not fecking old enough to be watching racing in *looks up one man race record* 1998!! haha
34 though 😂 (y)
Have a watch of his Gold Cup runs from the 90s (96 & 97), and then his Champion Chase win (98).

What a horse and one of the first horses that got me into racing.

Be interesting what race they go for at Xmas with both Sinnatra and Kabral. Very likely that one of them will have to race against Old Park Star as Nicky sure to pitch him into either Sandown or Kempton.

Agree that Kabral could be 'soft'. I did like the debut of Sinnatra more and he could well turn out the better chaser of the two. His hurdles form last season was right up there against the better horses without winning and he certainly is very gutsy, has a lot of experience and looks a real hardened type.

Yep, loved him too. His Hennessy win will long live in the memory.

Also won the King George twice in the same year!! Work that one out.....

Without getting carried away , and looking beyond the obvious..
Work ahead- h.d.bromhead available at huge prices , .
I backed Workahead last season for the arkle , but he stayed over hurdles due to an injury I believe .
I've taken a chance again , with a free bet ,
Just because of the trainer . , same with Leader d'allier , didn't know about that injury
Just remember him being withdrawn on or just before race day.👍.
Looked at him myself. I fancied him for the Arkle last year also but the way he dropped out of the supreme I waited. He will be just shy of 9 when the Arkle is ran this year though. It's a thumbs down from me this time

It was quite sudden and hard to explain really, because he was travelling so well up till the last.
Maybe he swallowed a piece of flying turf :D

He's On Fire backed in for Arkle with 365 and pushed out for BANC. They have done opposite for King Rasko

At this stage I’m thinking this could be a tasty Arkle we have to
Look forward to
Not sure I would be risking too much cash on the front few in the market right now

You are more than likely right Yosser ..
I confess I didn't realise his age , but a free bet , so won't lose too much sleep.. 👍.

A lot of excitement both here and across social media generally with Skelton's two novices this week.

Fair enough but It's barely mid October, we've seen no other GB novice chasers of note, and the Irish are yet to show their hand.

Dare I say, it's all a bit presumptuous?

I had a look also, he got two novice chases in at the end of last year so I had him marked down as a possible Handicap plot.

He is also now the top yard in the UK with the best facilities at a time when many trainers haven't been able to get their horses on the gallops. That's not counting for the fact he is chasing as many winners as possible and so unsurprisingly has his horses fit and ready to go from the off. Think a lot of people could get sucked into the early season form of his horses when looking at Cheltenham.

depends how much you believe skelton but his interview afterwards was adamant both had a lot of work to get fully fit and he'd be campaigning with view to march - esp kabral who might not trun after Xmas. both were good hurdlers as novices so i think you can take a positive view that they have improved as chasers. there might be better to come but I think they are good early season markers

KDM is a grade 2 winning hurdler rated 156, so no, for now he is not a better chaser than hurdler based on winning a Beginners chase when he had over 2 stone in hand over the opposition. Sinnatra you can make a better claim having won a novice handicap chase off 141. Though I am also cautious of him due to the reasons I mentioned above but also, he is a big horse built to carry big weights and he may be better against inferior opposition in handicaps. Nicholls runners have also been needing the run, unsurprisingly with their facilities now lagging behind by all accounts so can forgive the 2nd.

I don't tend to take too much notice of trainer comments. A lot of it is mind games and they owe no one anything. Just take the facts on the course and what you see with your own eyes.
