2026 Novice Hurdlers

I personally dont like backing horses off the back of time figures and winning distances against poor horses etc. I think its all pretty meaningless imo.

His three wins have been in races that dont resemble a supreme in any way shape or form. Uncontested leads against poor horses or horses who aren't trying, and exaggerated winning distances on bad ground. I'm always very wary of such profiles. Especially when you have to draw a line through his one bad run and assume that he wasn't right, even though that happened to be the only race he's had over hurdles that somewhat resembled a competitive race.

There has to be a good chance he was perfectly fine on that day, and just didnt like being taken on, as opposed to having it all his own way in his other three races.
I respect what you say …. But … could not much of what you say ie ‘winning distances against poor horses ‘ etc be true of Mighty Park. Watching his race again at Fair nothing was put in the race from the start ending up with 38l to the 2nd etc He is of course trained by Mullins and JP is the owner!

Absolutely. We've no idea if he's that good either.

Its just that history tells us there's probably a better chance that he is just because he's trained by willie mullins and owned by jp mcmanus. And also sober glory has been beaten by hurricane pat and I dont think there was a tangible reason given for it, so there's that question mark with him too.

Honestly, I think he'll come up plenty short.

He's beat Kadastral twice now, but I think the latest one was exaggerated because of the ground.

His other win, he was entitled to win as he liked being 2/13f. You expect the same or more of all the better novices.

I'm a bit like you, I think he'd be better out in trip.

If it came up Heavy this would increase his chances in a Supreme.

One other thing, will Harry Cobden stay on him or be swayed to ride one for Willie? He was on The Reverend at the DRF, so I wonder if he'll be back on board him come the day.
He'd ride one for JP surely??

Sunday or Thursday next for Mighty Park?

15th February - Listed Sheila Bourke Novice Hurdle (2m)

19th February - Grade 3 Michael Purcell Memorial Novice Hurdle (2m4f)
If he runs in the 2m on Sunday is he not more likely to run in the supreme? I've plenty on Might Park Turners slips but I'm starting to get the feeling he's going to end up in the Supreme....

He doesn't really have many other options for either race - only really the 4yo Proactif for the Supreme and Love Me Tender for the Turners. That would imply he would just send Mighty Park to where the best winning opportunity was. The Supreme looks the deeper race to me at the moment.

Gut feeling is he'll run on the Sunday and then the enivitable x meltdown, but then step up at the festival. It's giving me a headache.

I'd like to see him in the turners.

He does have a Moscow fly winner for the supreme in Sober. Agree supreme is the deeper race. I'd say a step up would suit MP for better longterm goals.

Willie has Sober but JP doesn't.

I agree that Turners would suit better both in terms of current experience and long term goals plus it looks the easier race at the moment so I would see that as the favourite. Think we are probably unlikely to know for definite until declaration time though.

Ah yes sorry, true.

Yeah makes the most sense in my eyes. We'll have to wait and see.

It’s giving me a headache also, for the last 10 days I’ve been trying to strengthen my position on the supreme with the exchange. If he does win well on Sunday he’ll be a standout fav for the turners, I’m hoping that pushes him into that race…

Has anyone heard anything about whether The Reverend is likely to go to the Supreme? I got the feeling Cobden hadn't really asked him any questions before the horse stumbled on the final bend at Leopardstown and unshipped the jockey. Just wondering whether my small ante post stakes are down the drain or not.

Supreme still very much the plan, but as with all things Mullins, could easily shuffle the pack late on and he ends up in the Turners...

Something about Windbeneathmywings on the RP site but i cant get it as no pay for it.

Sorry to rehijack, but a man of great culture I see. Westside Cowboy going to the moon this year - saw them support Blondshell and they were magic.

If you like Irish up and comers, check out Madra Salach. Very Lankum esue odd trad.

Also Gurriers, love those lads
Yep I also saw them supporting Blondshell and saw them again at the weekend and will be seeing them again in March when they support Geese. I had a good chat with them after the Blondshell gig are they are such a lovely bunch. I think they are a little shell shocked at how well it’s all gone for them but they really do deserve it.

Yep I’ve been keeping an eye on Madra and Gurriers but out of all of the Irish bands I think Florence Road and Brooki will be the ones that go all the way to the top. Brooki haven’t even released anything on physical or digital yet but I was speaking to their bass player and they are planning to do so soon and once the public get to hear Sarah Brookfields voice and realise what a generational talent she is then I really think they will take off. Both Sarah and Lily Aron (Florence Road vocalist) are rare examples of singers that sound even better live.

I have a real soft spot for Bleech 93 too but I see them being more fringe and commanding more of a cult following.

What I do know is all these Irish bands are more talented than inhaler who bored me senseless live , they just don’t have the luxury of having a hugely famous dad.

Understandably I fear I might be getting told off soon for hijacking’s this thread.

"He's in work but it's a fight against time," said Pipe. "This time last year he'd probably get there, but they changed the rules and you have to have had a run over hurdles beforehand. We're still in with a small shout but we've got to do what's right by the horse. Because of the rules in this country, he's not eligible for the Cheltenham bumper, either."

Sounds unlikely

Tom malone mentioned on the final furlong podcast that he’s training and Cheltenham not impossible, but unlikely. If they can’t make it will go to the bumper at punchestown and hurdle next year (paraphrasing obviously)
