We’re able to start this one nice and early thanks to @Saxon Warrior nominating 4 selections for the July wager.

So @Istabraq has been volunteered to Captain this thread, thankfully he’s accepted the challenge.

Also, as long as he doesn’t change his mind, we have @Danman lined up for Sept after which we get a more informed choice as the season and stable tours etc start, so please step forward if you fancy Captaining in the future, it’s a great way for new FJs to join the debate.

Anyway, onwards and upwards, let the discussion begin. Sounds like Ista isn’t keen on including novice hurdlers, but don’t let that put you off attempting to persuade him.

On the basis that this months yankee could be Championship races, i'd possibly look at the following

The New Lion (CH) generally 4-1, 9-2 available in places
Marine Nationale (CC) generally 5-1
Jasmin De Vaux (SH) generally 10-1, 12-1 available
Galopin (GC) generally 6-1

Interested to hear peoples views on the Arkle.
Long known this to be the target for Romeo Coolio, probably proved to be about 7lb below the top novice hurdlers last season but they always believed chasing would be his game so can he bridge that gap if those hurdlers also take on fences ?

Although I like the top three in the market, I think Kawaboomga needs a mention.

I'm not sure what plans are yet (obviously) but on his defeat of William Munny there's not an awful lot between him and Kopek.

From memory when they met on hurdles debut Kopek got first run and duly went clear but Kawaboomga stuck to the task well.

He's a 20/1 shot whilst Kopek is a 7/1 shot.

I like Kawaboomga but weren't they talking about how he would be better when stepped up in trip last season?

Saying that though, I fully expect him to start over 2 miles as a chaser

do you not think they could stay hurdling and go for a coral cup with him? still only 5 and his best rpr is 136, 3 pipe openers to qualify and then run off 140, id be all over him

Potentially Eoin. I don't see why not. Willie will say in his stable tour that "he is a big chasing type ....... But he could stay hurdling, we will need to talk to JP" He would probably be a graded horse in a handicap if he went down that route so it would have to be grade 1s and see if he is given an 'edicational' ride :D. With him being a JP horse though, I suspect he will be given every opportunity to prove himself at the top first. I think he would make a decent chaser, he is more an athletic looking horse, a bit leggy as opposed to a beastly plodder. I think he will go chasing but if he needs another season of hurdles I can definitely see that angle.

Actually only need two runs wouldn't he. Not an unreasonable shout this. As far as festival handicap plots in July go anyway...

Kopeck 158 Irish rated
Munny 156 Irish rated

It’d be a stretch getting kawaboomga down to a uk mark in the 140,s IMO

I'd doubt it with the Irish Handicapper being so strict but you never know with JP

How about a little bit of J.P. Bingo .,. for the August 25 yankee .. :) ..,.
....
The New Lion .... ch hurdle ..
Majborough ..... ch. chs ...
Inothewayurthinkin ... gold cup ..
.........
and take your pick - Honesty Policy , Jericho du Reponet , The wallpark , ..... stayers hurdle .. ??.
....................................................................................
although i would prefer to see H.P. go chasing .. Please J.P.

….i’ll suggest Impaire et Passe (Ryanair), 20-1 available.

Beat GW when winning the Ballymore on his only visit to Cheltenham, then took some notable scalps over mid-distance trips when hurdling. Mullins genuinely miffed with the loss of 2m 4f Nov Chase for him, he missed the Festival this year but won Manifesto Nov Chase at Aintree over 2m 3f.

Sounds like @Istabraq is after certain targets which might rule this fella out but I’d be thinking Ryanair is the plan and he might just be going under the radar.

This might be a good shout.
I got a bit confused what they were doing with him last season, talking about a staying campaign for the back end of the year skipping Cheltenham then sending him to Aintree for a (weak) 20f G1.
Does anyone have confirmation why he missed Cheltenham ?
I could easily be proved wrong but I don't see him as a Gold Cup horse so if he is on the boat it'll be the Ryanair, but having missed the last couple of festivals the doubt would be with him travelling, plenty more big race options in Spring time...

Does Majborough's jumping not concern you especially as he'll be up against the battle hardened experienced reigning champion ?
The New Lion looks solid enough, not a huge amount of value in his price but he can only go here, does anyone think any of last seasons novices can factor or are we looking at the same group ?
Not sure they'll take in the Gold Cup for Inothewayyourthinking, weren't there noises of the season being geared around a National bid ?

I can't see them missing the gold cup with Inothewayurthinkin, he's the reigning champion and most likely winner next year (imo), surely he'll go back and defend his title ?

….i think he missed the Festival simply because the 2m 4f Nov Ch was scratched. This is from the Feb Mullins stable tour;

Impaire Et Passe
Brown Advisory Novices' Chase, 20-1
There's a good chance he might miss Cheltenham. He would have gone for the two-and-a-half-mile novice chase if it was still there, but he might go to Aintree or Fairyhouse instead. I think Aintree would be my preference for him at this stage.
