PERTEMPS NETWORK FINAL Handicap Hurdle

I see Henry is trying once more to exploit a lower hurdle mark. Last time ended not so good (Gabbys Cross) be interesting if this works out better particularly as this fella has winning chase form at Cheltenham. Obviously wouldn’t want to be winning today though.

I assume you mean Senior Chief - he doesn't have an entry at Cheltenham does he?

Very happy with Will The Wise there, he stayed the trip well, cruising turning in and battled past the other horse last furlong, perfect outcome really as can't imagine he'll get really whacked for beating the 2nd, but they pulled miles clear of the 3rd. Very happy with the 16/1 Ew NRNB!

….& 28-1 WTAF, as low as 7-1 in places but I suppose it’s now in the hands of the handicapper.

Wouldn't be rushing to back any of those to turn up 100% in just however many days time.

That was pretty attritional stuff

As Jim said, that would have been tough going in that ground and may take some getting over that. I'd backed him prior for the Pertemps and the Pipe. They may now go the Pipe for the extra day recovery or just leave Cheltenham. As short as 12s in the Pipe but some have him 33s NRNB.

Think yous have been listening to willie too much with these recovery times needed, what happened to the days of running in two races at the festival :applouse:

In all seriousness though he seemed to do it easy enough so you'd be hopeful it won't take too much out of him, got the feeling the jockey didn't want to win by too much and only got a bit serious towards the end when he realised maxi mac gold wasn't going away.

18 days until the Pertemps , loads of time with swimming pools and heat lamps , walkers etc

It will be interesting to see where Henry's Friend goes - Ultima or Pertemps Final. He finished last of 4 in the Newbury qualifier to qualify for the Pertemps Final and then finished 5th in the Hennessy and won the Mandarin Chase. OK he might be a Newbury specialist but he now has a chase rating of 145 and a hurdles rating of 135. Between 9-16s for the Ultima and 14-20s for the Pertemps.

Really like Bugise Seagull in this at the prices, can get 35/1 currently with Ladbrokes boost. The handicapper hasn’t exactly missed the Irish and there’s not many horses jumping off the page.

Bugise has some nice hurdle form from last season, 3rd not far behind handstands and jango baie in a listed race, and 3rd in the grade 1 at aintree won by Brighterdaysahead.

The last 2 winners of the race have both reverted back from chasing in the same season to go on and win this.

His hurdle form since reverting back has been pretty solid, carrying 12 stone twice in handicaps around a flat, sharp track like Musselborough wouldn’t have been ideal. He still shaped with plenty of promise both times not beaten far and running through the line finishing with running left both times. I think he’ll relish the stiffer test at Cheltenham. Trainer is in decent form too so looks a bit of value imo.

….i think Middle_Of_March likes Sole Survivor;

He would be the most likely of my two entries in the Pertemps, but he does want soft ground. He has won his last two and he was favourite for the Welsh Grand National last year, but things didn’t quite go right for him and it has taken awhile to get him back on track. He is qualified for the Pertemps and it’s the right race for him off a light weight. (Jamie Snowden)

Cheers for this. I do really like him. Admittedly the possible quicker ground was my worry too and the trainer mentioning it as well is a slight bit more concerning. But ultimately I think the race is always won by an out and out stayer. They get racing from a long way out in this every year and he will gallop all the way to the line. My suspicion is he will relish the Cheltenham hill.

Am on at fancy prices but with the 6/7 places on offer on the day, I’ll be going in again at 16/1+

….Cromwell re Will the Wise;.

‘He’s off a career-high mark over hurdles and Cheltenham may just come too soon given he only won on Sunday in testing conditions. We’ll see how he goes over the next two weeks and hopefully he can be a player here.

…Elliott;

I’m not sure if The Wallpark will go for the Stayers’ Hurdle or this. I thought Patter Merchant could be interesting if the ground dries up; he’d have hated the ground the other day [when fourth on heavy at Naas].
