2017 RSA Chase

Mouse Morris has decided against running Alpha Des Obeaux in the Flogas Novice Chase at Leopardstown this weekend and he will now head straight to the Cheltenham Festival.
Having got closest to Thistlecrack in the World Hurdle at Prestbury Park last March, hopes were high for him over fences this term but,despite a Grade Three win, it has not all gone to plan.
"He broke a blood vessel over Christmas so we can put a line through that. I just want to take him there (Cheltenham) fresh," said Morris.
"He'll go for the RSA Chase, not the four-miler (National Hunt Chase), I've got Nambour for that.
"We'll also run Buckers Bridge in the Foxhunter Chase. He's been revitalised in points this season."
 
Ruby on Bellshill

Willie runs two in the Flogas Novice Chase, but there was no choice as, obviously, Barry (Geraghty) rides Bleu Et Rouge. I ride Bellshill, a horse I’ve always thought a lot of, and he’s in good order. He won his beginners’ chase well and was very good at Christmas in Limerick, but this is a better race.

A Toi Phil was a good winner of the Leopardstown Chase, but Balko Des Flos is turning out quickly after running over three miles. Bleu Et Rouge surprised me when he departed so early in the Arkle at this track, but seems to be in really good order at home. Disko and Our Duke are both stayers, and there wasn’t much between them in the two-and-a-half-mile Grade 1 here at Christmas, but I like Bellshill a lot and think he will go close.
 
Whisper going here rather than the JLT by the sounds of it.

Not seen anything tonight but that would be a very odd decision? Has won over 3m but I'm sure I can pixie Hendo saying the intermediate trip is his optimum

Apparently it's in todays RP, haven't seen it yet though so can't confirm myself. Different Gravey to go JLT meaning:

JLT - Top Notch, Different Gravey
RSA - Might Bite, Whisper

Would be very surprising - his 4 wins at Cheltenham have all come at the intermediate trip.

Davy Russell has had no rides for last two years but before that finished 414213 in the RSA. I am sure he likes the race !
 
Well that would sum everything up for me this Cheltenham,I put a £15 ew double and two£15 singles on ADO and whisper for the JLT yesterday afternoon. So Whisper going for this would be the final straw for me...along with all of Riccis that have defected in the last few weeks this is becoming an absolute disaster AP. Seriously questioning whether this AP lark is worth it.
 
I feel for you SOAG but the warning signs have been there for years, AP punting is fraught with danger....
 
I don't think ante post betting is fraught with danger but Mullins bingo is. Avoiding Mullins horses is the way to go. Even if you back his horses and they make the races, you'll have had plenty of sleepless nights in the run up to the festival.

I've been there and done it, and really don't want to repeat the experience.
 
Yep lesson learned guys,I've been ante post betting on the festival for the last twenty odd years and have never known anything like the last two years.Fresh approach needed for next year
 
I know we've said it plenty of time SOAG but the volatility didn't exist before the expanded festival, novice chaser either went Arkle or RSA, and it was fairly easy identifying which horses were 2 milers and which were 3.
As you say, everyone loves the idea of sitting on a big voucher at fancy prices but a fresh approach is probably needed by all who play the AP markets...
 
Would have to agree with the points on ap betting, I think the last vestiges of fairness went out the window when major owners became major bookies
 
Agreed Ista,I don't really bet much during the year on the day to day meetings,most of my energies go into the festival, and have done for many years,after losing loads on rubbish like the all weather and mundane meetings.

I loved the fact the Festival went to four days, but now it's come home to roost big time,how the hell can you make a judgement on a horse say like VVM that seems to be priced for half the festival races.
Anyway my cash will be staying in my bank for a lot longer next year, no matter what hype there is in August about the next big thing from Ricci for the Supreme!
 
Yep. Don't know where they go from there. Wonder if they'll leave him at home after that fall and given that he hasn't acted round Cheltenham in the past.
 
Always thought his price was ridiculous and his form was no way good enough to be put in as the fav, glad my thoughts paid off this time.
