Cheltenham Handicap Shortlists

Will Mohayyed compete in the county again?

He’s won two of the toughest 2 mile handicaps so I think he’ll have to move to open company now.

I left him out as I figured he was too obvious and every man and his dog would be aware. That Novice Handicap Chase at Kempton has strangely been a good pointer for the Close Brothers Race at the festival - I’ve no idea why though.

The other thing to note is he’ll need to win again to get into this race as well. Even though some low ratings got in last year, I’m not sure they’ll chance him making the cut off 134

He's 137 isn't he?

This will sound absolutely mental, but I was on that yesterday and it said 137. I know it can't have, but it did haha.

Definitely the Kempton race for him then you'd think!

Mister Whitaker won the Close Brothers off 137 so maybe that’s what you were thinking of. With him they won the Kempton Boxing Day race and then went to Cheltenham to get another bump in his rating. They could do the same with Glen Forsa as he’d get course experience too.

The Kempton Boxing Day Race is definitely one to watch each year as a pointer to the Close Brothers Race though.

Black hercules - Brown Plate Advisory - 16/1

Have used this weeks sky free bet on him for this.

Very unlikely he comes here but I’ve got it in my head he just might

Edit: I’ve actually doubled him with The Storyteller e/w for the Coral cup

It's usually a good trial for the Close Brothers so I'd imagine that's where they'll head next.

Better to back at the same price for any race no?

Edit- Sorry that was related to discorama

I thought Jack channon said that they were aiming for the Close bros , after Glenforsa won at Kempton ,
But , I could have just imagined that , same as mr whitaker e.t.c, But in a few of my multi's now
Anyhow.

I'd be surprised if he is good enough off his current mark (153, 14lbs higher than last season in the race) to get competitive in it this time around.

Arctic Fire won it off 158, an unbelievable feat, though had Champion Hurdle form, L'ami Serge was 2nd that day off 152, I don't believe Mohaayed to be as good as them myself, and I was one that benefited from his win last season in the race, but my head rules over my heart on this occasion, not to mention, the rating he has means he could end up elsewhere anyway, as others have said.

They are aiming at the Close Brothers but they will almost certainly need to get another win in order to get his mark higher to guarantee a run.

No entries at the moment , Would he need a Win , or just a good run , in the places ??.
Blue across the board on Oddschecker today , some people like him.

He probably needs to go up 5-6lb to be guaranteed a run. The novice handicap on Cheltenham trials day would be the race I'd imagine.

Last few years bottom rating to top rating as follows,
It changed to 145 last year (so might alter the dynamics a bit, and the ground thinned them down last year for sure)
2018 - 137/145
2017 - 137/140
2016 - 136/140
2015 - 134/140
2014 - 131/140

It was definitely becoming more condensed each year and was looking like it last year too, until the ground came up heavy. I remember being surprised Mister Whitaker got in as he was way down the list at the 6 day stage.
But Kev mentioned on another thread that the lack of runs some horses have had could stretch the bottom to top ratings this year.

But 134 looks too low as others have said, which in a funny way makes the money for him today seem very confident, as though they expect another hike ? ( He could obviously get another jump for sitting in his stable, due to the subsequent form of those in behind him last time out)

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but NotwhatIam was a massive eye catcher on saturday in the Pertemps and is one Id fancy for the final if he is high enough rated to get in the race. Id be pretty sweet on his chances if he got in.

A good weather festival I reckon 140 is the cut off.

I really like discorama for this, most likely destination I’d have thought?

It’s looking that way based on the trips he’s been running at. At the beginning of the season I’d have said further but they’ve stayed around 2 and a half miles.
