J.L.T Novices Chase 2019

Is it horses like La Bague Au Roi that cause him to make those jumping errors?

He can probably pop around nicely when schooling, but jumping at pace is often the key factor in novice chases.... that'd be my worry with him. I wouldn't take for granted he'll improve the jumping when he's next tested.

Have to agree there Kev really, in all honesty it'll take a huge improvement in his jumping to cope with the jumping at pace. He seemed to grow as last year went on over hurdles so just hoping he's one of those who suddenly turns a corner, happy to be on any race @ 22s but can't say I would be expecting a win in this from him.

I keep circling back on the JLT as I think it's full of great value somewhere but just can't seem to bloody find it, half the market won't go here and the other half I just can't seem to get behind :highly_amused:

If he can improve on his jumping and eliminate those errors I see no reason why he can't be up involved, the form with La Bague is certainly holding out well at the moment!

If you watch both his runs back he actually matches her jumping most of the time and the only real mistake he’s made was in the second race that brought him to a stand still. I’ll forgive him that one as he’s had to race twice against a very good mare who goes a real clip.

I’d advise rewatching his chase starts. He’s made one mistake and for the best part jumped great.

Get that big old boat Kalashnikov up in trip :devilish:

Good point, after his first run I was very encouraged with how he jumped, I think perhaps the big blunder has stuck in my head over anything else he did that second race which probably has clouded my view a bit. I see he's entered in the dipper new years day so will be a good chance to see him around Chelts, which over this distance I think could suit him well, so fingers crossed there are no big errors this time out.

The entries to The Dipper are competitive so it should be a good test. It’s also good to get another run under his belt at Cheltenham. Tizzard is aiming high with him so that’s encouraging.

Was that after defeat today? Or prior?

She said at the start of the season that they'd happily step up in trip if the horse needed it. Jack was flat to the boards when they came out of the fog so I'd be hopeful that they go up in trip.

Admittedly, it's my pocket taking on that though

Ah right, yeah I knew that.

Was hoping it was today.

KAlashnikov for this race is about the first thing I can remember us talking about after the festival had died down :highly_amused:

She 'mentioned' the JLT today. But said he had shown enough speed for 2 miles thus far.

He HAD, until he stepped up in class!

In her/their defence, it puts him no worse off than Lalor...as the same horse beat him too - but then on their BEST chase form, Lalor has a much better piece of form in the book.

Will wait and see

Amy Murphy said of Kalashnikov:

"There is not a lot I can say, as I couldn't see it. He has run very well - his best half-furlong was from the back of the last.

"Jack (Quinlan) said he took a mile to warm up today, which is not like him. He has run a good race and is home safe and sound. It (track being sharp enough) was always going to be, but we had to come here.

"I'm delighted with the way he has run, but those big galloping tracks suit him better.

"He will get an entry in both (JLT Novices' Chase and Arkle). Up until now he has shown he has plenty of speed for two (miles), but we will keep plenty of options open."

That was today, Kev.

Brilliant, thanks Tim.

None of the bookies really taking a chance, he's been cut in quite a few places.

He had to come here, my arse he did. Bad placing for a horse that needs stamina to come into play.

On The Blind Side confirmed to make his Chase debut in the Dipper at Cheltenham on New Years Day. Likely to take on Defi du Seuil and Lostintranslation and Black Op

Lovely race that will be. OTBS will come on for the run whatever happens in it I'd imagine. Down to DDS for me personally. Only have Lostintranslation 'any race' and nothing on Black Op.

Does defi de seuil go on decent ground?
He was held up off a slow pace on heavy ground last time.
