Desperate to see what Presenting Percy brings to the table , But again I'm agreeing with you Bobby,
Thought N.River ran well , and I have been putting S.love in all my Multi's at the current price.
So looking for a good run from her this week,

The Irish just need to find one to beat Native, I agree that I think our lot here are hit and miss. Native should run to beat at Cheltenham, espeically if soft again

Wonder what price for Ireland to have the first 4 places in the GC :/

Road to respect, Al Boum Photo, Percy, Bellshill and Shattered Love could be better than all of the English challengers

Looks as though the Irish may have this in the bag, what does everyone make of native river?
He struggled to get to the front and then stayed on towards the end, has some lengths to find with the first 2 today and then we've got the Irish continent yet to play their hand for the.....I think 9/2 after todays run (bet365) is poor value.

Have to agree, it does look that way at present.

He's the one of Tizzard's I'd back if forced to pick, though.

Might bite just looks like another one of Nickys with a shorter shelf life. To be fair was always a quirky one.

We talked earlier in the year about the possibility that last seasons Gold cup had bottomed MB, looks like that maybe the case. Really fancied Clan des Obeaux earlier in the season for the Haydock race and drew a line through him after the race, touched 20's yesterday and didn't consider him, bummer, think FM was a fan too if memory serves.

It was painful to watch MrM. Didn't have a bean on him yesterday.

Clan Des Obeaux has been to Cheltenham 4 times

Form - 2622

Twice as a juvenile, beaten by Protek Des Flos at 11/8f and then beaten 15L (6th) in Ivanonic Gorbatov's very good triumph (Apple's Jade, Footpad, Let's Dance all ahead of him, and Frodon, COnsul De Thaix, Sceau Royal, Zubayr in behind)

Then went chasing, was only beaten 0.5L by Whisper in the Dipper on New Years Day (went off fav). Whisper went on to be 2nd in the RSA. Clan Des Obeaux skipped Cheltenham though in his novice season (which is where my memory about the track not suiting him comes from around).... he did go to the SCiliy Isles in Feb and made two big errors so came last of 5, but won at 4/9 in March at Exeter.

He ran in last season's Caspian Caviar Gold Cup and came 2nd to Gutair Pete (which would/should) have been 3rd as Starchitecht had that race won.

Given his age, you (in my opinion) can NOT say he doesn't handle Cheltenham... which is what I thought I could remember Paul Nicholls saying - however, you can envisage him preferring other tracks (a little like Silviniaco Conti perhaps).

Deserves another crack though, 10/1 now best price for the King George winner. Not one for me right now but undeniably on the upgrade still. I've been a fan and backed him quite a lot suring his career already, didn't consider him yesterday for too long really, so perhaps I'm being a little stubborn

Very stubborn. He travelled beautifully to the front in a strong king George on the bridle. Paul left plenty to work on from haydock and onwards from today.

Nicholls said: "At Haydock (following Betfair Chase) I got in the car with Harry Cobden afterwards and said 'you have got a headache now' as Politologue had just won at Ascot and I said 'what you are going ride?'. He said 'I've not got a headache, there is only one I'm going to ride'. He has a lot of faith in the horse. He thought he ran really well the other day and it made a man of him.

"If you look at the form he didn't have much to make up on Thistlecrack the other day. We've always believed in him a lot, as you know."

He went on: "Ten King George wins is amazing. For my landlord (Paul Barber), Ged (Mason) and Sir Alex Ferguson it doesn't get any better. It is absolutely awesome.

"It was a very good run at Haydock for the stage of his career and he sort of got forgotten. Some said he was not good enough, but horses progress. He was like a footballer coming from the Championship going into the Premiership that day.

"He got a little bit lost, but he stayed on and it was the basis of a good future and I think there is a lot to come from him. To win races like this means more than anything, I can tell you. He is a proper Gold Cup contender."

Harry Cobden is all smiles after Clan Des Obeaux's King George win

Cobden said: "It's absolutely brilliant. He has improved a lot for his last run and he has done it really well in the end. I definitely thought he would improve. He is very lazy at home and didn't do much from the last. I was struggling to keep up most of the way, but his jumping put him in there. It's massive, winning the King George."

I'm not going to back myself in to a corner, as I may back him further down the line - at the moment though:

I've seen him get out battled / out stayed on a few occasions (definitely not what you need to win a Gold CUp unless you're a super star)

I've seen him win a King George that is only strong on paper.
Thistlecrack was 2nd, who hasn't won a race in over 2 years.
Native River was clearly not suited by Kempton again, and plugged on, as any dour stayer would have (you can see why the bookies still have him shorter for a Gold Cup than Clan Des Obeaux)
Politilogue was 4th - made headway, came to make a challenge. An absolute non stayer.
The favourite completely flopped (Might Bite) and Bristol De Mai fell, bringing down the main danger for many, which was Waiting Paitently.
Coneygree is not anywhere near the horse he was.

Look at the quality of races thistlecracks run in. You can't knock him with that.
CDO has been brought along nicely. He's no miles on the clock.
Either way, if you come up cruising on the bridle and win the king George
Your a definite bet at 20/1for the GC, imo

Paul Nicholls is a huge, gigantic positive. I do like the horse, and I am not saying he can't win at all - I just don't want to react too quickly.

Of the King George runners yesterday, I only backed Waiting Patiently for the Gold Cup, which was NRNB and I've now cashed out as I didn't think the winner would be coming from the race (or they were too short e.g Might Bite, Native River).

I don't think I need to worry too much about Clan Des Obeaux at this stage with my book as it is.

He's not 20/1 now though.

Well done for you at 20/1. Move on.

At 10/1, I don't think he's a bet.

He was 50/1 before the King George... THAT would have been a bet :p

It certainly would have been at 50/1. I diddnt fancy him for the KG. They kept saying they've left plenty to work on. But he's young, very progressive and on that display a leading GC contender.

Well the question is, with that all being true, as well as being with the master, do I fancy him at 10/1.

I think I've found enough to stop me betting him for now... but plenty of time.

You could look at it two ways.

1/ He's beaten past winners and the Gold Cup winner well.

2/ He's beaten Thistlecrack, Might Bite (past their best). Native River (inadequate test). Politilogue (didn't stay). Waiting Patiently and BDM who didn't complete.

At the 10/1 price now, I kind of look at point 2.

No PP or Alboum photo in the savils chase. Both due to the ground id assume.

Road to respect and shattered love the best 2 imo.
And the best of luck to Archie with kemboy.
