    Looks more brutal than intended.
It was the brutality that created the humour.
We assumed it was a long night on the Stella for you...

Henderson on City Chief & Mister Coffey.

City Chief impressed in winning the Towton Novices’ Chase at Wetherby earlier in the month, but looks set to sidestep Cheltenham, while Mister Coffey is in line for the National Hunt Chase despite suffering defeat under his planned Cheltenham rider Derek O’Connor at Uttoxeter on Saturday.

“I don’t think City Chief is ready for it — I think he needs another year,” reasoned Henderson.

“He was great at Wetherby, and the time before. He’s learning but he’s got a bit more to learn and I don’t want him in there this year. He will be there, he’s going the right way all the time but no. He has an entry but I’d rather not.

“Mister Coffey will go for the National Hunt Chase. I was a bit disappointed he got beaten the other day, but we wanted to make the running, they had a false start and then a standing start and the trouble is he stayed standing!

“After that he got caught horribly wide the whole way round and personally I think he should have won, but we got a run into him and he ran a good race and the National Hunt Chase is what we’ve been aiming at all along — that was why Derek was there (Uttoxeter). The plan is for him to ride.”

Spot on making the running with him. If he were a greyhound they’d be taking him to a field somewhere and let him chase a few rabbits coz he won’t go by. We could see a different horse out in front and getting into a rhythm. He will chase all day long if you let him ....second to the field

Willie still not committing with GDM! Townend and Patrick must still be making their case for him!

Worryingly JDB not mentioned in the stable tour. He was one I was hoping would step into the RSA breach so GDM went NH chase
Possibly getting close to GDM ending up in RSA by default

Shit! True, completely forgot about him! Still mentioning Ramillies in the picture for here and RSA still gives me bit of hope too!

Yeah it depends what ramillies target is. If it's the Irish national, the RSA would be the better race for him. If it's Cheltenham, the NH chase would be. Also depends if Willie thinks gaillard can beat gerri et al I guess?

                    Willie on GDM

He could be our best chance in the Brown Advisory but he is also our best chance in the National Hunt Chase, so we will have to see.

                    Willie on Ramillies

He wants a trip. He'll be going to the Brown Advisory or the National Hunt Chase.

I think it depends more on Sir Gerhard and which race he goes in from the RP comments about him rather than Ramillies

Yeah agree - reading back my message I didn't intend to say that GDM target is dependent on ramillies target. More that the better race for ramillies would be RSA (as second string) if he was going for Irish national as it's a free shot at a grade 1 or a better handicap mark. It's just implied that that would mean that gdm went NH chase due to connections.

As you say though, ramillies can only go there as second string if they have a suitable first string (e.g. sir Gerhard)

                        • It seems obvious that if they are both on the boat they will be split.
But Willie doesn't want to say how, because he doesn't need to.
To me that says he thinks they both have the best chance in the NH chase (which is pretty obvious also).
If only one of them makes it, then it's a no brainer.
If they both run then it seems a little less cut and dried.

Glad to have been on the related doubles.

Only need to be on the obvious way around though.

I'd say odds on GDM goes NH chase, but it may only need the RSA to weaken by a couple of defections for this to switch IMO.
Especially so if the NH chase also loses a threat or 2.

However at this stage I see neither winning either race.
Funnily enough, I'd fancy Ramillies more than GDM for the NH chase.
                              Just seems less exposed.
