Hills no longer let you bet ante post at the counter, they send you to the machines which are linked to HQ so limits can be automatically applied and of course mine got rejected, thankfully a helpful assistant broke bets down into amounts that were accepted but I'm guessing not every Hills will have helpful assistants.
Be warned....
I found out in March , that it's not so easy to collect another shop's betting slip ., at Will Hills .
Thankfully i also bumped into a Helpful Assistant . He saved me having to go on a 60 mile round trip .
Apparently , They are obliged to pay out their own shops customers first ., and if there isn't enough dollar there .
You have to go to the Shop where you made the Bet. .

That’s staggering.
But of course the spurious rules they apply these days about having to pay you out with the same method you placed the bet doesn’t help.
And if you have a bet whilst on holiday, or Hills shop on course, there’s a real chance you have to go back there to collect ?

I'm sure it's possible ., To be fair , i was picking up a decent payout ,. so if it's a relatively small amount , should be o.k.??.
Whilst we're discussing how good a bookie hills are i was in Spain for royal ascot and put a few bets on with them which all lost, if i tell them that i was betting whilst out of the country then they'll obviously feel the need to give me my losings back, i presume !

The way around it is if it’s a bet from their machine just scan the ticket into the machine and press redeem funds as credit then withdraw it. The ticket that then comes out doesn’t show which shop the original bet was placed in, then go collect from the counter. I’ve done it a few times after last Cheltenham as a few shops were being arsey about it not being from their shop.

Is that to cash, or just on that WH card thingy they use?

No I don’t use their “tracking” cards. Just their machines, you can scan your winning slips from any shop (must be a machine slip with the barcode) then redeem and cash it out to get a new slip with your payout on

Excellent so you basically verify your win in any WH machine, anywhere, and then take the verified slip to the counter for either
● cash
or
● sending it to your bank account via a credit on your debit card
I take it you don't get your original betslip back, just a new verified win one?

Not sure about wiring money to cards I haven’t asked that I just present the payout slip for cash as there’s tracking involved with cards. I’m trying to stay off the radar with the shops so tend to collect from different ones and spread it around rather than all at the same shop which leads to red flags if you happen to have a good Cheltenham. You still have your original bet slip as you’re just using the in built scanner to scan the bar code so you can simply throw it away once scanned, you don’t put it into the machine or anything.
I wonder if someone can share some light on this, I was speaking to a punter in a William Hill and he suggesting that any winnings over ?600 resulted in them asking for documents.
