I can't help thinking the combination of this being a novice event with a ceiling of 145 means the winner is unlikely to have found the winners enclosure in a competitive event at this stage.
I accept there are valid arguments for the ceiling but if you are the owner/trainer of a horse who you think is a mid 140s you won't run them through fear of gaining too high a mark, and given the 'cap range of this race is barely a few pound there's a real risk high 130s rated horses won't get in.
Not a race therefore I can think about until early March, but don't let my views stop constructive discussion....

Not a trend as such and applies to most hcap races to be fair but a bit of first time headgear is always a good start point for me in these sorts of races . Thou last year non had it in this race.

              brilliant.
If I was JJ, I'd have been all over that.

Glen Forsa a short priced fav for Saturday. They are going to have to be very careful with this one if they want to win at the festival!

White Moon - Close Brothers Handicap - 14/1 NRNB SkyBet

A small NRNB cut today by SkyBet and looking at his profile you wouldn't be put off.

Currently rated 143, entered in the Listed Chase @ Warwick on Saturday over a purposeful 3m, he won't win IF he runs (currently jocked up, so no reason to think otherwise), and he won't be dropped more than 5lb by the handicapper, so likelihood is he'll remain firmly within the rating bracket to have a crack at this, Mister Whitaker won last season off 137.

Despite not winning on chase debut he was looking like running a nice race until coming down, I think many on here commented as him being one to take out of the race at the time, but he probably lacks the class to contest the main novice chases, but the handicap route could ensure he at least is competitive at the festival. The fact his debut was at the course is another positive, despite the fall, as he seemed to show a liking, nearing the end of the race, for the uphill finish.

Apologies in advance if someone had already mentioned him for this.

Lough Derg Spirit - 20/1 NRNB SkyBet would also interest me if he re-opposed Glen Forsa. Suspect he'll need another run and run well to get in, after his below par performance LTO, returning from wind surgery.

The above were mentioned in the handicap thread, but now this race has it's own one they can come here.

My original first choice for this was Pacific De Baune but he’s reverted back to hurdles (I still like him for a handicap regardless). My second early season pick was Kildisart trained by Ben Pauling and I’m hoping he’ll come here. He had a reasonable hurdle campaign and reached a mark of 142 which is just above his chase mark of 141. He’s always been thought of as a chaser so I’d like to think that 141 may underestimate his potential. 141 would pretty much guarantee him a run but he is entered at Cheltenham on Saturday so hopefully they don’t blow it then. I actually backed the horse NRNB for all the hurdle handicaps at the last festival but he missed the cuts.

Saw that quevega and assumed it meant he wouldn't be running. Looks pretty big now...

Hard to know what mark he would get with a win here but you'd have to imagine it will be 143/144 ish which will make the Festival tricky enough.

Horses of interest here. There's others not priced up that I'm looking at, but of those priced up.
And not mentioned on this thread already. But have been mentioned in others.
                            Springtown Lake 141
                            Gun Digger 139
                            Ben Dundee 141
                            Kapcorse 141
                            Jenkins 145
                            Minds Eye 138 Irish
Then on Saturday there's around half a dozen running that need a good run and a hike that would be of interest here also.
                            Even Squouatuer.

I’d be keen on Spritofthegames for this. Runs tomorrow and needs to drop 1lb.
