    1.40 Aintree – Robin Roe

I’m really excited about this horse and pleased that we can get started with him. I think the ground is going to be great up at Aintree, so it should be absolutely fine for him. We start him off in this maiden hurdle, although Paul has a nice horse in the race in Winningtry. This is always a decent race, but I do like Robin Roe a lot. He’s won a point to point and he’s won a bumper, so we are expecting a decent level of form from him. I’m just looking forward to getting started; he’s jumped well at home and done everything right, so now’s the time to see him on the track.
Skelton said he'll go for the Challow straight after the race. Does that make him more likely to go for the Neptune? I really like him and the performance yesterday oozed class.

    • The Challow is the kiss of death for Neptune hopefuls....

      • Do you have any thoughts on why that would be? There's a similar one for the Feltham and RSA which I can understand given the differences in those two tracks but the Challow / Naptune I just don't get.

        • It's a headscratcher FM.
There have been some serious winners of the Challow, Witchita Lineman won and then went onto win the potato race, Fingal Bay wasn't fit enough to take his chance and Denman somehow found Nicanor too good.
The fact it's run 3 months before the festival confuses things more, plenty of time to get over excursions.
          Nope, no idea.....

          • I had a look through my ante-post so far and came to the conclusion that I don't have enough rolling on to Douvan for the CC ...

            Annie Power - CH
            Limini - Mares
            Douvan - CC

            68/1 (willhill)

Annie - She is going to defend her crown. Patrick and Willie have said it and whilst I appreciate that might not be worth as much as it would be from others, they won't put her in a WH without a proper prep for it and they won't put the reigning CH champ in the mares race, barring injury of course.

Limini - If VVM is the super sub, it is probably less likely that she turns up in this race... leaving Limini, who Mullins said 'hopes' can turn in to his Mares hurdle horse. It seems the obvious path for the mares novice hurdle winner to go and it is a weak division.

Douvan - I am not going to entertain the thought of Douvan not going for the CC this season, as they have no obvious replacement and Vautour and Djakadam both as Gold Cup contenders...

There we go. All in. Can't lose.

            • Aux Ptits Soins had a canter round Chepstow today. Looking at the photos and videos he looks in fantastic shape and really looks like he's filled out this year ready for chasing

              • Hi all, new poster here! Just discovered this forum and it's my favourite topic Cheltenham!

Just placed my first antepost bet for the 2017 Festival, thoughts?

                Melon - Supreme 16/1
                Apples Jade - CH 8/1
                Limini - Mares 6/1
                Jezki - WH 12/1
                Vautour - GC 7/1
                Lucky 31 E/W

                • Welcome from me UncleMonks

My thoughts are that after day one you'll cash out before Jezki gets beaten by Rawnaq and Vautour gets re-routed to the Ryanair

                  Looks good... keep them coming

Can't disagree with this post Kevloaf, if they both get to March in one piece Annie will definitely go to the CH in my opinion and Faugheen goes to the World Hurdle.

Limini for me obvious choice for the mares and it looks as though they are confident in her.

I also can't imagine them stepping Douvan up so much in trip yet and if he goes to the CC he wins it!

Might have to take some of that 68/1 myself!

                      • Agree that this might happen but Faugheen going for the World Hurdle should never happen imo.

Oh I agree! As ridiculous as it is to not have the reigning Champion Hurdler going for the race, it is almost as bad to not have the previous champion running after he was robbed of his chance after by injury. Especially after posting the best 2 mile hurdle performance of recent times in the Irish CH...

They SHOULD take each other on! If Ruby got injured, I wonder if they would

Totally agree, would be fantastic to see them take each other on but yes barring an injury to Ruby it surely wouldn't happen!
Annie Power was fantastic last year but Faugheen has been superb at Cheltenham.
Debating backing Yorkhill for the Arkle too....

                            Comment

                            • I still think Min will go for the Arkle and Yorkhill will go for the JLT ... PaddyPower are biggest price Yorkhill for the Arkle and shortest for Min and for the JLT they have Yorkhill shortest compared to other bookies which backs up my theory enough to stop me panicking too much at the moment. Whether you believe the PaddyPower angle in to the Mullins targets or not is another matter entirely
