  • Im pretty new to the sport in a sense Faugheen. bad knee injury in football forced me in my non sky household to watch sport on terrestrial tv. By chance I got interested in horse racing but been watching it now for a while after becoming

So my betting etc. Is still pretty green/novice like, excuse the pun.

That's why it's so good to see everybody's different ways and opinions on here As it will help me out to become a better punter as the time goes on.

On another note. I hope the festival Yankees fire this season!

      14:15 - Douvan
      14:35 - American Tom

Exciting 40 minutes for Ricci fans today!

365/1 to all win at Cheltenham (with 365 funnily enough) .... wonder what it'll be after the races today ... Not going to bet, just might be interesting

          • Anyone know what happened with three swallows Nick? Pulled up early yesterday and a few firms have taken her out of the betting for the mares novice hurdle..

            • Anyone tempted to back Jenkins for the Supreme in a couple of multiples before he may run at Ascot this Friday?

Nothing more exciting than landing the Supreme if it rolls on to something else...

              Jenkins (Supreme)
              Altior (Arkle)
              Annie Power (Champion Hurdle)
              rolling on to
              Douvan (Champion Chase)

is 109/1 which is alright! ... I think I am trying to find as many ways as possible to have Douvan on the Wednesday becoming the most important race of my life

              • 65/1 1 pt EW on Min (Arkle) and American Tom (JLT)

I'd say the targets are 99% clear ... these will definitely be kept apart...and even if Yorkhill does go chasing, they would probably still turn up and have a good go at placing...

Obviously similar to the bets I have posted many pages back with Min / Yorkhill and Altior / Yorkhill but the longer this Yorkhill chasing 'saga' goes on, the more likely I see him staying over hurdles.

                • Agree kev, and the weakness in faugheens price also fuels the fire

                    • And that Invitation Only will likely go for the Neptune.

Did mention JLT first when asked about Yorkhill..

I missed the bit regarding the JLT .... Chapman seemed hell bent on getting him to commit to the Arkle!

                        • "Then hopefully two more runs between now and cheltenham and then depedning on how well he does, it will be JLT or Arkle"

                          • Brilliant. Plenty of debate and so on about this but I'll get my thoughts in early...

I feel I have seen enough occasions that lend themselves to the theory that Ruby Walsh rides what Ruby Walsh wants to ride in almost every single race for Mullins, regardless of the owners, at the big festivals. (Specifically Cheltenham)

So to me, this will come down to Ruby riding either:

                            Option A - MIN / YORKHILL
                            Option B - YORKHILL / AMERICAN TOM

I don't see any other combination (assuming all arrive fit and well/Yorkhill doesn't jump like a snooker table) I might have considered Yorkhill for the RSA but having Bellshill for that is enough to stunt that thought process for now.

Now in option A, American Tom could also run in the JLT, and in option B, Min could also run in the Arkle, but they'd be 'also rans' because I'd be so confident Ruby had picked the right one, with the best chance of winning.

So, it'll come down to which combination of those two horses, give Ruby the best chance of riding two winners.

A few ways of looking at this next but I am using the premise that they consider Yorkhill to be better than Min over any distance. (Slightly backed up by Ruby's immediate comments after winning the Neptune saying "Yorkhill would win the Arkle with his mouth open".) With that being the case, either they genuinly consider Min being good enough to turn the tables on Altior, leaving Yorkhill to seemingly win the JLT --- OR --- American Tom is good enough to win the JLT, so they fire their best horse at Altior...

I think a HUGE amount now depends on American Tom... if the vibes are strong for him in the JLT then option B becomes a VERY strong possibility.... Coral are still 129/1 for Option B, and I will be backing that shortly after posting, because I have that option covered at a price I do not mind losing on.

Interested to know peoples thoughts and opinions on these options (apologies to those I know don't care about the Mullins' targets with regards to betting)

                            • Think there might be a very obvious reason we're all missing.. I don't think willie or ruby really knows who is better MIN, Yorkhill or American Tom.. I think they'll plan to keep them all apart until March then hope the waters become clearer.. Personally I think the fact they've kept options open for Yorkhill until mid December is a negative.. If he was jumping well at home they'd of made there minds up earlier.. For me, I'll go MIN for the Arkle and American Tom JLT..
Love the idea of a team Yankee, how about one for each day of the festival

                                Ah, an Option C ...

I do think the Annie / Faugheen missing targets has affected Yorkhill though.... and I would be staggered if Ruby 'got off' a previous festival winner. Staggered.
