Winning Most Cheltenham Jockeys : Richard Johnson

Richard Johnson is the second winning most National Hunt Jockey of all time with 3,819 career wins. He announced his retirement on 3 April 2021. He rode his first winner under rules on Rusty Bridge at Hereford on April 30 1994 and became champion conditional jockey in 1995/6. He was Champion Jockey on four occasions commencing in 2016.

When Rooster Booster won the Champion Hurdle in 2003 he became the only jockey then riding to have won the four feature races at Cheltenham. Barry Geraghty and Ruby Walsh have since equalled this, but it is a select group. When one month later on 19 April 2003 he rode his 1000th winner he became only the eighth jumps jockey to do so. At that time the others were John Francome, Peter Scudamore, Richard Dunwoody, Tony McCoy, Peter Niven and Adrian Maguire. When he rode his 2000th winner on Fighting Chance at Newbury on 16th December 2009 only his great adversary Tony McCoy had achieved the feat before him. His 3000th winner came on St Saviour in January 2016.

In all Richard has won 23 Cheltenham Festival races
