I cannot get Workaheads run at Leopardstown Oct 2024 out of my head, when trouncing William Munny by 7 lengths
White blaze, jumped very well and quickened on the home turn to put the race to bed. In a time equal to Kopek Des Bordes time 30mins earlier in the day, yet with 5lb more on his back. (Admittedly Kopek did pretty much flatten each hurdle!)
This was a marked improvement from his previous run, where beaten easily by Jasmin De Vaux (maybe not so bad?) and he went into the Supreme as third fav within a field that included Kopek, William Munny, Romeo Coolio, Karniquet and Irancy…….(Karbau who he runs against today at Naas was a 40/1 rag)……..Workahead ran no sort of race, finished last and was found to be sore afterwards.
The plan from HDB’s stable tour info x 3 has always been hurdles this year, even though he is already 8 years old and his start to the campaign was always beyond Xmas, so hopefully he convalescence has gone well, as he starts his campaign today.
Not sure what to expect today though, as his price is drifting slightly and others inc Karbau appear to being backed ahead of him, but he has a Champion Hurdle entry, so they must think a lot of him surely? And as a 2m hurdler not stayer as he is not entered in the Stayers Hurdle.
The form line through William Munny, Kawaboomga and Kopek Des Bordes from last seasons campaign does read very well and William Munny was many peoples idea of a good each way punt for the CH early doors. So why is there no love for Workaheads CH chances?……is the view that his Leopardstown run was a fluke?
What if he is back to his best, healthy and runs them ragged today, like he did at Leaopartstown?……wont be 100/1 afterwards will he
The owner has had some pretty good horses with HDB over the years, so with the CH having many question marks over most of the contenders, at 200/1 win today and CH and also 100/1 CH separately, worth a bit of spare change methinks!
