Where will they go ?

For me MN is the danger to SM. His Jockey has already said that he'd beat IEP which stuck with me as it was such a random thing to say.

also sticks with me that Barry Connell said that he’d be back for the arkle next year and that he’s Irelands answer to con hill. On the basis that con hill goes the arkle route, do u think Barry will be avoiding him?

If I remember correctly from the post race interview it was along the lines of they will go where CH isn’t.
Barry was presuming CH would stay over hurdles so name-checked the Arkle

to answer that I’d say if CH goes chasing that MN will have a crack at the champion hurdle. He’s younger than good land so wouldn’t be surprise if he’s kept over hurdles and GL is sent chasing for Barry

For context, Mikey O’Sullivan said MN would beat IEP in response to the precise question from Nick Luck; “who’s better, MN or IEP”. It wasn’t random and in my view, he wasn’t likely to say the other horse.

Yeah it would be very worrying if he said Impaire...

But it heaps further pressure on him, the connections and the horse by even answering the question in that very positive manner. I'd say every other jockey bar none would pass on it. What it does say is he clearly has a huge amount of confidence in the horse which is great to hear for supporters. It's not just because he rides MN either, his response means much more than that imo and it's too simple to think otherwise.

Yeah fair play on him being bullish, he's a young lad nothing wrong with that at all, confidence can take you a long way and he's certainly not being tutored by a pessimistic sort in Barry is he. The confidence will ooze from him into Michael and it's good to see.

Over 2m I actually agree, and I am a much bigger fan of Impaire Et Passe than Marine Nationale. I think Impaire Et Passe is absolute quality over the intermediate trip and possibly further, which is why I can't have him being a Champion Hurdle horse.

Can anyone else not see IEP going Arkle with FV going up in trip to the turners? Mullins bingo is early. CH is a pain as everything will revolve around him.

I'm struggling to see why State Man is a much bigger price than IEP for the champ hdle. Willie already said he'd like to keep him hurdling as his technique was so good. They felt he slightly underperformed last year and with Con Hill potentially going chasing, the door will be fully open for him to try win a champion hurdle.

David Casey thought Impaire was a proper 2 and half miler so the Turners would seem the right call for him, I'd have it:

Arkle - Con Hill
CH - State Man
Turners - Impaire Et Passe

This is how i see it too ...... IF ..c.h. goes chasing .:encouragement: .

Didn't see anything in facile Vegas Supreme run that suggested he wanted further

If anything he didn't get home, tanked his way to the front then kicked clear but seemed to start to tire then blundered the last

FV is last year's dysart dynamo for me. Probably could get further on pedigree but pulls too hard to have any chance when actually racing

Yepp totally agree, and Willie seemed to think so too.

Do you not think he got done by a horse with great gears ?
I think he could easily be effective over 20f, whether he becomes a world beater at that distance is another thing.
Leading up to the Supreme there was incredible confidence in him, I think the performance of the winner took them all by surprise…

IEP will avoid con hill so the turners is the most likely at this stage and I expect he’ll be campaigned with that in mind assuming they both go chasing. However should con hill head to the champion chase then I could definitely see IEP targeting the Arkle. The waters are going to stay muddy for a long time this season, this will run on and on.

It'll be interesting to see what they do at Punchestown with IEP. I think they might just have a shot at Marie Nationale, and if he wins that, he'll stay over hurdles next season.

He's a horse to avoid until after the summer, imo. That said, I did back him for the Turners ahead of the Ballymore.

I’d say WP will want FV re-opposing MN at punchestown.. he sounded very disheartened post race and was adamant he wasn’t going up in trip & that he had the faster horse. He almost bit his tongue off trying not to blame PT..

I think for IEP to face off against MN it means either FV isn’t running in the race or Mullins has had to swallow a pill he really doesn’t want to regard FV cause I don’t see both IEP and FV running against each other

Wonder will his UK connection consider a run at Aintree with IEP?

My view for what it is worth. IEP is far too good to go to the Turners. No truly top class novice goes for the Turners as their [NODE="1"]Home[/NODE] target. Bit like the Ryanair. It might be a backup option if things don't go as planned but right now he looks top class and that means to me it must be Champion Hurdle or Arkle. My view is he will go Champion Hurdle. Of course if Constitution Hill goes Chasing Willie might have an excess of options in the Champion Hurdle with Facile Vega, State Man and IEP but to my eye IEP is the best of them and he is only a 5 YO, plenty of time to go Chasing after winning the Champion Hurdle in 2024. He is the first 5 YO to win the Ballymore for 10 years. Prior to him it was The New One (2013) and he went Champion Hurdle in 2014, Peddlers Cross (2010) and he went Champion Hurdle 2011. I think the key point to where he goes in 2024 is the fact IEP is only 5 YO

As an aside, Constitution Hill is going to the Arkle isn't he ?

Do you remember a horse called Galopin Des Champs? He targeted it once upon a time. Think he had a then top class rival who also targeted it.

I agree most top horses will ultimately be aimed for the GC or QMCC, but the Turners is absolutely a credible stepping stone to both.
