Triumph Hurdle 2018

Could be totally wrong here, but I get the impression and general vibe that Mr Adjudicator could be the 3rd string for Mullins in this behind Stormy Ireland and Saldier. Riding arrangements here will be very interesting

Yes, Mullins has a strong hand here and you'd have to give a big chance to whatever Ruby picks. I hoped yesterday's RP article titled "Ruby Walsh runs through his star-studded book of Cheltenham rides" might shed some light but the article was an absolute waste of space.

WM has stated that Stormy Ireland is his best juvenile. I haven't considered anything else from his yard. Apples Shakira has my vote.

Me neither, the only 2 I have covered for this are AS & SI.

Unless he has mentioned it again recently I think those comments were just before Mr Adjudicator's last run which was over a month ago. These are juveniles and it wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility that one of the others has since come on a bundle.

I could ride Sayo, Saldier, Stormy Ireland and Mr Adjudicator. On form, Mr Adjudicator is a Grade 1 winner and he’ll be hard to overlook.

It was a good performance by him to beat Farclas at Leopardstown. Apple’s Shakira and Redicean look very good. Apple’s Shakira stays very well and Triumph Hurdle winners usually do.

Stormy Ireland looked relentless when winning for us, Mr Adjudicator looked a sharpish kind of horse, Saldier could be anything and Sayo is in there as well.

I can’t rule any of them out and it’s going to be a hard call over which one I ride. On form, Mr Adjudicator is the one and the rest you’re just going on potential. I’ll have to have a sit on them all next week and see if one of them gives me a feel that the others don’t.

Walsh being typically unhelpful...

The whole article was the same. I could have written it. Offered no insight whatsoever.

As unhelpful as it was to a punter the bloke has been injured and not sat on any of them, if he had put one up then sat on them and changed his mind how annoyed would you have been?

He also does give some inclination on what he has seen visually that Mr Adjudicator will be hard to overlook.

I'm not having a pop at Ruby, it's the journalism.

Would you not expect WM to have told him his best horse?

WM has already come out and said Stormy Ireland was his best juvenile, no? Why would you need confirmation from RW?

I'm probably being a little stupid but... If that's the case why the confusion in RW's post?

Because he still has to ride one and hasn't sat on any of them since his injury, he has claimed Mr Adjudicator has the Grade 1 form in the bag, that's as clear as it is right now, and as he said he will wait and see what they all feel like when he is on them, his opinion may differ to WM's after all.

To be fair - did he not say that before Mr A win last time out? The stance from Willie then changed to same as Ruby. MA has the form in the book while SI could be anything

Fair enough, I take that point about not riding any of them.

I just assumed (rightly or wrongly), they would pretty much be working from the same hymn sheet on horses he should ride.

For the record I've backed SI and Farclass, so hoping he doesn't choose MA! :highly_amused:

Indeed he did, what they do at home and what they do on the racecourse can differ massively sometimes. I tend not to listen to trainers and jockeys an awful lot anyway, because they tend to cover all bases (so they are always right) before the festival. As this was about Ruby's written piece though, I can't see how he would know, regardless of WM's thoughts, until he has had a chance to sit on them?

He gets paid to write his piece, and I'd do the same as him regardless of if I didn't know the answers! Personally I think it is between SI & Mr A, but Ruby talks about all 4 which he is entitled to do.

Your assumptions are not unjustified, like you'd expect them too, but even on home work you'd still expect Ruby to have differing opinions to WM once he actually sits on them.

Do we really think that Ruby hasn't sat on any of them at home yet? He must have been riding out a fair bit before returning to the course yesterday - and surely giving some input to Willie about what should go / what should stay home / what the pecking order might be?

He was riding out at his old mans yard supposedly.

Fair enough - though forgive me for wanting to add a pinch of salt to that - just my opinion, obviously. Maybe I'm being overly suspicious, but I find it hard to believe Willie is going to let him jump on all that prime horseflesh next week on the back of a ride at Thurles and Ruby saying "I'm fine boss".
