Triumph Hurdle 2018

Act of valour out in tw first at Newcastle. Not sure about the ground but if he is the real deal he will want to be winning regardless. Haven't backed him today but I will be watching very closely and have a little more of the 40s for this race if he does the business

No idea how good the form is atm but had a few more quid on at 40s for the triumph. And onto the next race.

Now with Paul Nicholls, he was a smart horse on the level in Ireland for Michael O'Callaghan, earning a rating of 97 on the Flat, and showed a terrific attitude for a newcomer.

Up against two promising rivals in Look My Way and Embole, the 11-8 chance jumped immaculately throughout for Sean Bowen, winning by two lengths.

Act Of Valour runs in the colours of Max McNeil, who has had good juveniles like Walkon and Grumeti in the past. This is the first horse the owner has had with Nicholls.

"I was more nervous about him running than anything else today, because I think he is really nice," said Nicholls, who was at Newbury.

"He jumped well at home and has done well today. He didn't like the ground, according to Sean, but he looks a really nice juvenile.

"I don't know what we will do now. Today was his first start over hurdles, but he jumped well. We might look at Doncaster for the Grade Two there in a fortnight (Summit Juvenile), but we will talk to Max and see what he says. Nothing is set in stone.

"It's nice to have a first winner for the McNeil family, as they are great supporters of jumping and they have some really nice horses with other trainers, so it is nice to have a winner for them."

Nice win from Espoir D'Allen there.

Nice win from Espoir D'Allen there.

Barry quite complimentry in terms of how professional he is..... would take it that he feels AS is better though despite him not saying that

Nice win from Espoir D'Allen there.

Was very good and a leading contender no doubt. Will be interesting to see where all his juveniles go at the festival. Jp Still has plenty inc .. melody of Scotland, demopolis and elimay who have already lost there novice status to come out.

Probably be plenty of talk about one of them going Supreme again this year, although it didn't happen. Not like he is lacking for Supreme horses either ATM

Supreme/ mares novice as 4 juvenile mares.
I'd be very worried about mares novice for he likes of Apple's shakira myself.

What else has gone in the notebook from the last few fascinating days?

Sean Bowen: I won on Act Of Valour at Newcastle and was impressed with him. He travelled and jumped really well and essentially hacked up on ground he didn't really like. The horse he beat was rated 90 on the Flat and won on heavy ground, so it was a decent performance and I know Paul [Nicholls] quite likes him.

Hopefully he goes to that grade 2 (summit juvenile) at Doncaster in a few weeks and gets some decent ground.
No idea what else will turn up for that race but alan king normally sends a useful one and They fancy AOV chances alright.

Absolutely delighted for his new connections, the @McNeill_Family and @PFNicholls Act Of Valour wins well, with a terrific display of jumping for his first run over hurdles. #rollonnextmarch #somejumper well bought @TMBloodstock

Nichols aways gets excited about his young horses but to be fair to them they have enough good juveniles in that yard this year to know that he's something pretty good

I only have 2 covered for this, but with zero risk now, as traded out Apple's Shakira & Espoir D'Allen, each one returning around 12pts profit should they go in, but stakes already back in the kitty. So have the potential to have another crack at something else, if of course there was something else to have a go at.

There's plenty there that will shorten dramatically. Not one for tipping but if you look hard enough there's enormous value in this market.

There probably is tbf Scooby, but happy with my position in this race for now. The risk with a lot of the unraced ones is we don't know if they will even all be running this season. I will likely wait for entries for a lot of them before going in again, Demopolis is one I have had my eye on for a while, but no news of when he is likely to be out that I have seen.

I wouldn't knock that at all. You have a good hand there.

And yes demopolis already lost his novice status same as style de garde for henderson . Ones to note on entry.

Hoping for entries of melody of Scotland who's lost her novice. and stormy ireland Who to be fair could be next year's mares novice hurdle horse and already out at grass.
Saldier of riccis of the flat one to note.

This one of your best races historically Scooby?

You have more of an edge in this than some other races perhaps? Plenty of good info from you so far.

I'll be sure to keep an eye out on here whilst I am in Australia as I'll do my best to get on Demopolis once he is due to run :)

Fair to say this race usually works out pretty well for me.

Much smaller pool of horses than the novice races. And you can always get a good handle of the form all the way through the season. Especially on a Sunday at auteuil. I usually back fairly small at the big prices a little more on entry then what I fancy straight after the race or during.

I'd imagine the prices stay well for longer too, due to the French form not being covered by as many that would be looking at the UK form lines.

Prices don't move at all even if there's graded form on offer at auteuil that backs there form right up. The one huge edge imo is the French season is well underway and you've not just got 1 run to look at you've got 3 4 or 5 from most of the horses from there races in a round or behind the ones that are sat in there box in the UK.
