To Win 'Any Race' 2019

He ran two in the mares novice race this year Laurina & Cut The Mustard.

Yeah, and that, so even more relevant.

HF - your 2 points extra are probably safe... but I'd still take 14s over 16s as a single. (and actually with WH I got 15.3/1 so for 0.7 pts I would always do that)

On Chante Neige/Daphne Du Clos, is there much history with Sullivan running two in the same race? We know Munir/Suede happily do it as does Ricci.

Daphne Du Clos is with Henderson not Mullins so don’t see Salsaretta being a factor at all.

Is the mares allowance enough to convince them to send one to another Novice race? Again of the top of my head I can’t think of a top one doing so since the introduction of the race.

Understand the hedge, but I don’t consider it a risk.

Yes I totally agree that they wouldn't be averse to running multiple runners in the race. But just have a feeling DdC may be really top class so they could be tempted to switch. I think its still relevant that the owners have Chante de Neige and Salsaretta as Nicky will often say that he will see what else the owners have for the race when talking about targets. It was slightly different this year as Laurina was the stand out candidate, they didnt have two potential stand out candidates.

If DdC had been 10/1 Any Race, Id definitely have taken the 16/1 for this race, but for the sake of 2 points, just thought it was a no brainer.

Salsaretta is owned by Ricci not Sullivan

And should not be a 33/1 shot ;):highly_amused:

On a more serious note though it is funny how recency bias kicks in for ante post betting, like prior to Laurina we would have checked the market and potentially backed the Ricci runners, one season he doesn't win it and the current winning owner now has 2 at the head of the betting whilst Ricci has a 33/1 shot, who also is the only one of them 3 to take to hurdles so far, and win a race I might add.

Same can be said for the Ballymore market IMO, on the basis of Samcro/COF.

Ive wanted to get Nicholls My Way on side if he was staying over hurdles (been chasing in France so could of gone either way) so happy to back him in the Any Race Market after news in the stable tour yesterday.

"He is a lovely horse and he will go novice hurdling fairly soon. He ran over fences and hurdles in France but I think he will stick over hurdles this season for us."

Added at 22/1

Added Cracking Smart at 17.5/1 with WH 2 pts e/w

Was a big fancy of mine (along with Next Destination) in the Albert Bartlett but was always going to fancy him chasing and when he's best price 20/1 for the 4 miler I'm happy to have 17.5/1 any race with the possibility he looks "top drawer" and goes RSA or ends up in a handicap somewhere.

Recently just Done the same thing and actually just popped on to update before i saw this. You'd have to think rsa but Gordon's so shrewd that I'm very happy to take the hit on himself and delta work at the prices. They'll be wherever they have the best chance.

Never has a market been so beneficial than when looking over the list of Novice Chasers for Gordon Elliott this season. He gave the 4 miler a name check for Blow by Blow in his stable tour today but I really don't think they have much of an idea on how

Blow by Blow - won MP at the festival
Cracking Smart - form ties in closely with Next Destination
Champagne Classic - won MP at the festival & grade 1 hurdle at Punchestown Festival
Dortmund Park - won grade 1 hurdle at Punchestown Festival
Delta Work - won the pertemps at the festival & 2nd in grade 1 hurdle at Punchestown Festival

Will end up trip wise come the festival. The fact all of them can be backed at 16/1 upwards is for me very generous when you consider their achievements last season. Now the above don't compare to them but really the last time we had a similar situation is with Willie Mullins & Rich Ricci and the likes of Vautour, Douvan, Annie Power, VVM, Faugheen etc but you were talking any race odds (if available) far far shorter.

Not a novice to add to the above list but i'm also very keen to get The Storyteller added in this race.

He’s a horse I think an awful lot of. He was obviously lucky to win the Grade 1 novice chase at the Punchestown Festival, but he had a great season up to that and had won at the Cheltenham Festival too. Don’t be surprised if he ends up back over hurdles, as he looks well-handicapped and could have a big one in him.

I was hoping to find some 20's any race but the biggest offered is 16/1 (have requested a price with other firms). 100% a horse i'd want in this market, as he really could go anywhere and that's before GE opened up the option of hurdles! An OR of 155 means he'd need to drop a few pounds to be considered for any of the handicap chases really if he wasn't able to improve on that mark and go on to compete in the Ryanair / Gold Cup etc. The fact he has a hurdles rating of 142 though - 13lbs lower than his chasing mark could be huge! He may well just be a better horse over fences but I remember Elliott saying he was his best handicapped horse for the festival in 2017 and he was as low as 9/2 fav for the Martin Pipe that year before injury so he could be chucked in off that mark (what many people considered at the time) and he could very well line up for that race 2 years on

Again a horse made for this market this season.

You can get 18/1 The Storyteller on Ladb ...

Imagine them trying to get him qualified for the Pertemps :highly_amused:

Coral Cup most likely, he'd get given a fair few lbs by the handicapper though on his Irish mark? Or is that unfair?

Could mix with them in the Ryanair perhaps, his G1 win was obviously really lucky, but I also wouldn't compeltely rule it out and say he's behind all of them because Elliott was running everything and it was an after thought? If they campaign him as a proper horse over fences then drop him into a handicap hurdle that'll be a very short priced horse on the day?

Blow by Blow 16/1
Cracking Smart 16/1
Champagne Classic 16/1
Dortmund Park 20/1
Delta Work 16/1
The Storyteller 16/1

Some decent prices to be had. I am particularly fond of Blow By Blow, who looks every inch a staying chaser. 4 miles round Cheltenham will be right up his street

Had a point on Lostintranslation on WH boosted to 22/1 this week. I always liked the look of him last year and can certainly see him coming on this year over fences. I would expect the JLT and with him being 16s for that it was a no brainer to take the any race option!

I backed Never Adapt on the basis Willie Mullins had purchased him from Guillaume Macaire, who he also bought Laurina and Vautour from. Not bothered in the slightest he has gone to Hendo though.

SHE hopefully runs on Friday and wins. Looks a proper test to he dropped into. So will know our fate early.
