Thought I'd post this here and get if off my chest. Earlier tonight my elderly neighbour fell face first into the concrete (blood and teeth everywhere) and I am absolutely traumatised by it. Managed to get her into ambulance etc and compose myself when necessary but now I can't get the image out of my head :numbness:

Thats must have been awful for her.
She would be grateful of your help

When will you know how she is?

Take care, play some music from happier times and see if your mind can wander down to some memories of good times.

Write a note down, now, to try and find out how she is.tomorrow.
That often helped me compartmentalise things when trying to sleep - as I knew I had made the note and would deal with it in the morning.

Also if you enjoy reading, then maybe read something you enjoy, maybe some fiction, so your brain has to put images to the words, to follow the story and characters. That may help

Her daughter lives close to me and I know she is OK I just keep grimacing at what happened and feel totally helpless to be honest. The wife is out so I've stuck some music on and I've got stuck into some racing books but I keep going back to that moment today. Hopefully a good night's sleep and it'll be better tomorrow.

If you're able to, a visit to see her may help. I'm sure she'd really appreciate it too.

The fact that you helped her when she really needed someone should make you feel really good about yourself.

She came home not long after my post tonight, broken nose amongst other things but in good spirits. I certainly feel a lot better about things today.

You did a good thing, and you should feel good about it.

That is good to hear.
Take care, and thanks for posting last night and today with an update :encouragement:

Synaesthesia for Pain.

Think it's do with the amount of Mirror Neurons we each have (varies individually).
Mirror Neurons have been strongly linked to empathy.

So if you do get a pain in the arse when you see someone fall over, then you probably also cry when watching emotional moments, achievements or movies.

If you don't, then you're probably a narcissist or pyschotic (or at least verging or capable of it) :playful:

I think if everyone lets me know on this thread (if they get a pain in the arse) then at least I know who to keep an eye on.

PS.
Lobos ! - you don't need to reply. I know exactly where I am with you :playful::encouragement:

I mentioned way back in the depths of the horror last year that my auld man was diagnosed with cancer last August. An incurable one too, so the nastiest of the nasty. He had a couple of months really. They offered him chemo, but were explicit - this has a low chance of success, and is buying you time not curing you. After we got Christmas pulled from out under us I stood on the drive way of his house on Xmas Eve - he'd finished chemo the day before. He'd lost half his body weight, and couldn't stand in the door cos the cold was rippling him.

About two months ago he went for his scan that showed that the secondary cancer had all but completely retreated. Medium term it's still a route to zero, but he won't be considered for chemo again until October. That's over a year since we first heard "a few months".

Dad an I are both season tickets holders at QPR, and I know Charlie Austin returning meant the world for him. When he came back permanently, we both just had last Saturday etched in our minds. So from thinking he'd pass away in lockdown, I wouldn't be able to go to hospital, limited funeral etc, to sitting back in our seats at Loftus Road watching Charlie upfront. Our seats aren't covered so even the sun came out for it.

And then we show up in the official coverage of the game celebrating Rob Dickie's banger. A permanent digital memorial. I'll treasure that 1-1 draw with Millwall all my days

robith

Somewhere in there there's a lovely story and you've gained some treasured memories.
I wish you both well...

A wonderful read Robith. Good on ya both.
