Awe Archie & CoD that’s dreadful news, I know the feeling and it’s devastating. I had to have my blind 11 yr old black lab ‘Old Bust’ put down after kidney failure just over a year ago and I struggled for 6 months after with grief. He stank, moulted everywhere, shit like an dinosaur, took an eternity to walk especially when it would start raining as he would refuse to walk so I had too carry him home in his final year and stole my tea continuously but I got more love and affection from him then any human, the kisses and welcome he gave me when I got home still makes me tearful now. He was also my companion when watching horse racing so if his kidneys hadn’t failed him then he would have died from a broken body all the times I pretended he was a horse in the final few furlongs!!

Dogs are so stupid and daft but so entertaining and loving. The older they get the more you appreciate them and there routines and stubbornness. I miss Old Bust so much, I needed a year before starting the whole process again and we’ve got a new labradoodle puppy and she is bonkers, the first bitch I’ve had and she is a full on tornado, really entertaining but a wrecking ball of fluff.

Not long after Old Bust died a friend recommended I watch the film or read the book called ‘A Dogs Purpose’ and the sequel ‘A Dogs Journey’. I reluctantly watched them and I found them a big help with the grieving, I laughed and cried throughout, they are such uplifting and lovely films I felt a lot better after. Check them out, they are family films but wonderful and will help you move on but also remind you as to why you’re hurting so much.

Good morning lads,

Just a quick message: A year ago this week a family member of mine tried to take their life. They didn't succeed and are still with us, they still have dark days but they battle on and life is generally better than this time last year. It has served as a timely reminder that sometimes life can get too much.

So for anyone who may be struggling but has not been able to say so, for anyone who hasn't posted for a while due to life's stresses, for anyone who has recently experienced a loss; for anyone who maybe is just feeling a bit 'meh'... i hope you're all ok.

It really is good to talk. Even on a horse racing online forum.

My inbox is always open for anyone who may need it.

Hope the sun is shining where you are, it certainly helps lift the mood! Have a good weekend all.

I still have PTSD from my last trip to Bath Races. I visited there about a decade ago. It’s a lovely course and I was having a great day, sun was shining in mid July and I had just landed a 16/1 winner all thanks to the Hayley Turner and I had passed the selection on to a group of attractive ladies who were celebrating with me after they collected their winnings and were keen to know my thoughts on the next race. I was working them up into a frenzy when one of the group I was with starting pestering them and trying to grope one of them. He was absolutely hammered from drinking early and being a complete pest and pain in the arse. I kept trying to shoulder him away and trying to get some of other lads to kindly usher him away so I could carry on my charm offensive when he tried to take a sip out of one of the ladies gin and tonics. He got his tongue right in her glass before she could shove his head away. Just as I was about to punch him in the kidneys for causing such a scene he projectile vomited over all of us. He caught most of us full on and just kept puking. I tried to palm as much of the vomit as I could off the front of one of the ladies chests but she started screaming and I ended up massaging it down the front of her top to which she started hitting me. Everyone had a bit of panic and backed off as this one lady just kept screaming and waving her hands like she had been attacked by a swarm of bees. The arsehole’s legs then buckled and he fell into a table knocking all the drinks everywhere. Security turned up and threw us all out. I had to wait another 2 hours to leave to go home still covered in sick stained clothes sobering up on the grass in the coach park.
Its a lovely course though, just pick your company carefully Lobos!!!

I generally coped quite well from lockdown 1... enjoyed a great Cheltenham this year and then have seen my luck drastically go down hill which has left me in a bad place! Firstly the house had a rat invasion which took me months to get to the source of and is still giving me nightmares... bought a car after the last one had the engine go only for it to have issues... I’ve taken it back to the dealer to reject and get my money back but he’s refusing. So I now have no car and no money... add to that and my eldest is suffering bullying at school. I know this is all fairly insignificant to what others have gone through over the past year but felt I needed to get it out there. If anyone’s had similar issues with getting their car money back from used car dealers and has any advice I would love to hear from you! DB

Sorry to hear of your unfortunate recent run of events DeeBee and I hope things turn around for you. With regards to getting your money back from a dealer, I haven’t had any direct experience but I would try quoting the ‘section 4 of the Sale and Supply of Goods Act’ which talks about the goods being of satisfactory quality. I’m not a lawyer but I would have a read and apply what you find to your situation. I hope that helps.

Feel incredibly flat today having submitted my final uni assignment of the year. Three years of work, partying, meeting new people and to just submit the assignment online in my room 200 miles away feels very flat as a way to finish.

We will be out for the euros next week but as of right now, it’s just a hugely underwhelming feeling.

Got to say I feel very sorry for you lot. Uni is all about getting out and enjoying as much as you can. I know a few people in the same boat as you and they feel the same. What I would say though mate is you seem to know what you like in life. Getting the greyhounds so you can upgrade to the horses is great. (I'm pretty sure that's you) Most people get to 50 and still don't really know what they're into so to have something that you love that will give you happiness, take you around the country and possibly the world and introduce you to people from all walks of life is brilliant. You missed out on some great sessions over the past year but they pale into insignificance when you've got a few quid in your pocket and a helicopter waiting for you after the last race. Onwards and upwards.
