Supreme Novices Hurdle 2020

Fly Smart
He’s a very smart horse. He’s not doing much this morning. His French form is impressive, a lot of the horses that finished behind him have won since. I think that he’s one that might be an interesting novice hurdler. He’s just a bit behind the others, he might not appear out until Christmas or the new year.

Good news, thanks for the update.

For the Andy Dufresne fanboys, latest Kevin Blake article:

Later on the card it was the turn of the much-hyped Andy Dufresne to make his seasonal and hurdling debut in the maiden hurdle over two-and-a-half miles. The five-year-old only made it to the track once last season, but very much proved to be worth the wait at Navan. Without fear of hyperbole, he produced one of the better rounds of jumping one will ever see from a hurdling debutant. He was deadly. That he did it having had to make most of his own running only made it more impressive. He looks to have plenty of pace to my eye and wouldn't have any issues with dropping in trip for the Royal Bond, but given Elliott looks to hold a particularly strong hand for that race, they might well hold onto him for the Navan Novice Hurdle over two-and-a-half miles on December 15th.

Question I’ve been meaning to ask for a while, when a trainer says a horse is s little ‘behind’ or ‘more forward’ than other horses what is the reason for this?

Should we read anything into Paddy Power not quoting Fly Smart for the Supreme?

That they know he's "the one" and don't want to take a penny on it?

:highly_amused: No idea...

As in why would they be?

Niggles...
How much weight they put on over the summer break ....
Different horses react differently to different ways of training...

Combination of all, and probably other bits....

Probably impossible to guage too, it's like when they say a horse is only XX% fit...

Thanks Kev, yes exactly that, those reasons all make sense, also wondered if the trainer purposefully brings them forward or leaves them behind. So in Fly Smarts case is he exactly where Willie wants him for this time of the season.

Or literally, purposely when they've asked them to come back into work. Some horses they'll want early season, some they'll want to wait a bit and not peak too early

The form of FLY SMART is unreal now.
30L demolition job in a very strong Grade 1, grade 3s, listed winners all over the place, I cant even be asssed to count the amount of 1s that have come out of that race. Theres so many.

**********
Every single horse that finished the race have now won. 18 wins, including grade 1 grade 3, multiple listed winners. there was over 43L between 1st to last. Each of them now individual winners.

Couldn’t agree more Scooby, I’ve taken a fair position on him and with the Elliott horses being talked about it’s kept the price honest

PP seem quite light on the AP options across all the races at the moment compared to i.e Billy Hill or Sky

I asked them to add something to there Any race market the other day, they said they would but they haven’t so maybe just keeping their powder dry?

They seem to have an issue adding certain horses, and will give you the option to place via dial a bet. Without being willing to add to the online market.

Was the same last year with cilaos emery arkle.
And the same the year before with footpad arkle

As soon as they ran they priced them up at current market value.

I imagine there is a myriad of reasons behind this. Fitness being the obvious one with some horses taking longer to get fit that others. There's no doubt trainers use the 'little behind or more forward’ to suit the campaign they'd like to give the horse, particularly when connections want to see a horse on the racecourse. If Willie Mullins said to you 'he's a little behind the others and needs a few more weeks' then you'd wait a few more weeks.

Jon Snow declared for the 2m Maiden at Cork

Anyone who hasn't seen Uhtred's race should watch a replay. Came from miles back in one of the big sales bumpers.

I'm with you Archie. It's certainly no walk in the park for Jon Snow.

Been unable to post for a a week which has been annoying!

I cant understand why any bet with Malone Road in it is unavailable for cash out with Bet365. Pretty poor form from them imo. It appears someone knows something, but we know nothing.

Your lucky to get the ones you do, I'm sure youd do exactly the same if he was banded around being injured.
I cant see then keeping cashout at all soon, when the casino restrictions come in.

It is a bit strange. Anything pre injury scare has cash out suspended but all my bets after injury scare have/had cash out available.
